well i got something going on i have not seen before with a 200 efi fresh rebuild machine work Jim ruck replaced one sleeve rest all standard bore new eveything ,pistons, bearings top to bottom day one this motor wanted to run hot, tried new poppet and thermostats first at first it ran hot on idle but i never let it get hot horn hot shut down around 190 changed to washers the big ones Merc sells with 7/16 hole then it ran hot on plane but cool on idle started adjusting hole size no changes except took longer to heat up ,dropped lower unit bought a Merc impeller and new housing gaskets water pressure 4/5 idle 15/17/on top still hot, changed poppet washer in block and grommet no change took power head off put whole nother mid section exhaust adapter and all, ran cooler but still too warn around 175 and water coming out the idle relief tube on the back of the midsection??????? did i say coming its like pumping out never even heard of it,tore it down again got another exhaust adapter very close inspection looks good new gaskets back on water is still coming out the idle relief tube still runs warm too warm im out of ideas :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:i have built a gob of motors i have never ever seen water pumping out of the idle relief tube on the back of the motor

I had the same issue with one of my 200's. I have 3, but 1 of them will run hot even with all the bolt ons from
the other motors. I stuck pistons 3 time on the second hard pass ever time. It's just the nature of "THAT ONE BLOCK".
I fixed it by running the water off the top the block to the heads like the SST120 motors. Also use a 3/8" fitting on the
poppet(not in) and a 1/8 fitting on the heads(not stats). Now its my best motor.
Hope this helps.

im not familiar with water off the top off the block??i know about the 260 cooling system are you using this on a 2 piece adapter? and removing the poppet guts running the 1/8 washers??? im going to remove the liner tomorrow that will eliminate the water coming out of the idle relief tube. i have Midas ill look at a 120 motor and see what the hose routing is( if it shows it) thanks for the help ive been working on this for two weeks and i get different symptoms im just about to lose my mud over this deal

shucks it does not show hose configuration . i have run 260 system before where you cross the hose's from stat housings and then out and other the hose off the poppet cover i dont think you talking about that ill see if i can find an example. thought i had a crack in something and the exhaust was heating the cooling system i had heads off Saturday absolutely no signs of any water in cylinders or exhaust cavity . compression is 133 port 135 starboard tis is a fishing motor completely stock
About a year ago we rigged a members boat and had similar issues. Water coming out the exhaust relief. My issue was a total brain fart. I had grabbed the two pieces required to make an adapter and they bolted up nicely. Problem was they didn't match on the inside. Aparently a 2.4 and 2.5 maybe. Looked good on the outside but nothing matched up on the inside and we got hot and had water coming out the exhaust relief. Doubt you made the same error however my fu showed the same symptoms.

I had a friend who had a similar problem with promax , he changed to a one piece adapter plate and engine cooled down.
I agree what malexie says about the nature of the block as I have seen different water temps in the same style engines.
I have seen the drag blocks with 2 hoses coming off the top of the block and routing water to the cylinder heads.
You also might want to look and see if that particular engine has blocking stuffers outside the cylinder walls.

Richard what are blocking stuffers?????? do you mean diverters like in a 260/280 /300 drag yes i put them in last Saturday and it helped about 10/12 degrees enough where im not as concerned as i was, i ran it around 1 hour today after i changed exhaust divider on back of the motor it ran 5 miles at 3000 at 150 go figger what got my attention this morning was after i changed divider i put a DDT on it and let it warm up for 1/2 hour all it would heat according to DDT was 132 so i jacked the rpms up to 3000 and let it run and the temp started dropping off a degree at a time till it got to 120 and the thermostats closed( im running 120 's )i said what the heck im losing my mudd so i went to the lake its only 1/2 mile any way i pulled it off the Bullet and dropped my Pmax back on it and im gonna install it tomorrow:D Hey rock dont feel bad Bud i done it more then once i finally had to move all my 2.4 parts out side because of my continual amnesia:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: thanks to all the replys oh yeah i took the can out and no more idle relief squirt
