My buddy had the problem, he took it to Paul Nichols shop and they fixed it, but I have no idea what they did to it.

Is it possible that your poppet is stuck open or the diaphram is ripped and not cooling the leg. Is the leg discolored at all like the can is getting hot?

some times we would see the the hub hole would be out of round Dad would weld in some passes then press a new hub back in specialy with the square back hubs

I'll check the poppet but cant see any discoloration in the can. I also smoked a pressed-in hub a little while back.
Lockjaw if yuo could find out what the problem was with your buddy's rig I would appreciate it???? Thanks....

Boat weighs 1500. Would an exhaust ring help since the trophy is smaller than my big case???

He doesn't know, he just took it up to Nichols Outboard Engineering, and they did whatever they do. I'd call there and talk to Paul or Del. All I know is he would get up and running, and get 3 or 4 miles out of it, and then the hub would melt.

Water dump holes in adapter clogged up can cuase this. They are only 1/8th inch. Crazy but lower will get super hot on hard run at high rpm and melt the hub in the prop. Fixed it by pumping a muratic acid mix 25% solution thru the motor. No more problem Or you can pull tyhe power head for access to ream out the holes. Good Luck DRM
