How much should it cost to have the upper driveshaft on a lower unit pulled? You know the one that just pops down in there on 2 piece driveshaft lowers.

Pull the water pump, clamp the shaft in a vice with the case about 2in off the ground (hangin by the shaft) put a piece of wood on the top of the case and hit it down till it pops out. Might take a few hits if it takes more then 2mins your doing something wrong. Or buy the million dollar OMC puller

Boy thats old school? But first ,Remove propshaft carrier, remove reverse gear, remove pinion nut, remove driveshaft carrier 4 bolts under waterpump, then remove driveshaft w/ proper puller, there not a million bucks. 1 hour about right, longer to go back together w/ cleaning and new seals.

I think hes talking about a 2-pc. theres a little clippy-doo thing holding it... of course, knowing the kid... he MAY be talking about the one-piece!!

No, ^^^ that is old school... Since he asked about the "2 piece shaft that just pops in" I'm assuming he has the newest style. You do not have to remove the carrier. The newer cases now have a 2 piece drive shaft and you do not have pull the case down to remove it. As long as the case has the 2 piece shaft with the clip, not the pin (middle) he can pull it. It's supposed to depend on the year but you never really know with OMC or older stuff could have been swapped over the yrs.

Yep. You can do it without a vise too. It just takes 5 more minutes.

The question I have is, will this driveshaft drop in? http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/brp/B-0335720.html

When did they start using the little clippy deal? I know my case has that, but this is for something different.

Looks to me like the pin #21 has to come out, so, that one looks like it would have to come apart.

So then it wouldn't work with a case that will accept a drop in shaft, unless both upper shafts were replaced? What year gear case would have this kind of shaft in it, or off what model, besides a 91?
