I'll be moving into a new place at the end of the month and the new place has some appliances that run on natural gas. The stove will be there already and I'm mildly familiar with cooking on a gas stove. I know they get hot much faster than electric and the heat much more evenly. What I'm unfamiliar with is the dryer. I'm going to have to purchase a dryer that is heated by natural gas since there is no 220 outlet in the laundry room, only a gas line. I've never used one before. I know nothing about them at all. Any info on brands? What to look for and what to avoid? Thanks in advance.

I've had two Dave, I would have had only one but the offer on my last house included the dryer! They are superior to the electric models IMO, the best part is no static.
My opinion on washers is to buy the one with the least bells and whistles. I don't think you can go wrong with Kenmore (Sears).

what Riverman said, gas dryers more efficient, you'll never go back to electric!

Most of Sears washers and dryers are made by LG(Korean made). Stay away from GE products. I would recommend Whirlpool or Maytag. We have the least amount of service calls on those 2 brands out of the stuff that we sell. as far as stoves an electric stove will heat more evenly than a gas stoved will which is why dual fuel ranges are becoming so popular(meaning gas cooktop with electrice oven).

I looked, mine is a Whirlpool.
In Canada the Kenmore stuff is made by Camco, as is the GE stuff.

How come a gas dryer doesn't have static?

The moisture present in the natural gas keeps the static at bay I believe.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm only renting the place so I'm gonna try to see what I can find used. Also, I was told that the gas company rents them on a monthly basis, so I may look into that too. I am pretty stoked about the gas range. The oven...meh I never use one. My girlfriend will probably use it for baking cookies. I'm more of a frying pan and grill type of cook.

About 10 years ago when we bought a house on the lake, all appliances had to go. The dryer was gas no choice.
Checked out Sears, they had a Kenmore Elite gas model that had been there too long. They had it marked down big time. Had to change the vent pipe to the newer code double wall and a new flex line. Works the best.

Compared to their electric counterparts gas dryers are very cheap to operate.
Whirlpool makes a good product and Jeff's right on the static issue.
And although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night I really am a gasman.

The price on NG is rock-bottom right now compared to electric or LPG. I would not suggest a NG/LPG heating unit since the salt in our air goes after the heat exchangers very quickly.

Nah, the house has central a/c and an electric heater. Not that I really need a heater, it rarely gets below 50* here. My old house had wall-banger a/c units and no heat at all.
