I know my boat isn't what most of you guys have or are into " very heavy 5000 pound average deep vee off shore center console" but I Did some very minor work and was blow away by the difference so I figured I post it up.
Last march I picked up a new to me 92 kencraft 215 with a 92 200 evinrude. after working out some bugs ' rebuilding the carbs, motor height, electronics link and sync decarb " I got it running mint but I was only able to hit 39 mph. The motor ran great but I felt it had more potential and I was looking for some more speed. After doing some research I found that the only difference between a 200 and a 225 was the carburators. I seached ebay and local craigs list and found alot of carbs. but I wanted a set of 92 225 carbs so I wouldn't have to worry about jetting being way off. Well I found a set bought them, rebuilt them and installed them. All I have to say is wow I just woke that bad boy up. Today I hit 46 mph "gps" and I think it still has more in it."fresh plugs and a decarb" I also only have the timing at 16 degrees so I can bump it up to 18. and I am going to lift the motor one more hole and see what happends.

look and the difference in the size of the carbs no wonder the motor was choked before.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Wow! That's a huge difference! I have a 1987 xp200 that I want to get more out of. From what I know you have one of the best blocks to build from. To get more power you would want to get some heads from an 86-87 2.7 to put on your motor. You would need to jet up for the compression difference, but the performance would be noticeable.

im in Long Island NY.
Im not really looking to raise the compression as my 100 gallon gas tank cost to much to fill with out switching to premium. i was thining about gutting the air box or removing it completly.

Compression is where it's at advancing the timing bumping the jets up most of all set down when u got nothing to do and use the search at the top right side of the screen u could read forever about mods ppl have done

not sure I'd do compression if your running lake gas in a heavy boat. I did it on a 17' panther and jetted up two sizes on the top four and four on the bottom two as well as adding 106 pullover tubes to the carbs to bring the mains in earlier. I also backed the timing back to 16 degrees from the stock 18 it was at. Mine was an 89 225, same block, I used the #331490 225 heads with .700 deep chambers and filled the idle reliefs holes by the exhaust ports with epoxy. This brought the compression from 90 lbs to 140lbs and yes it really woke it up but you need to run good super preferably without alcohol . I would not do this on a heavy boat were you don't want to have to run the best gas all the time.

Panther 150 makes a good point no mods are worth the cost of a melt down on a big boat it is what it is if you wanted high performance you got to lighten the load its pushing

props can make a good difference too, the omc renegade and shooter four blades can be bought pretty cheap used on ebay and these sites. they have been known to get three to 5 mph on some hulls. worth a try before you go into the motor.

I didn't take pics of the carb bodies while they where off but next time i have them off i wille.
Im going to work with what i have for right now i learned my lessons of over spending and not taking full potential out or the parts i have before i change them on my drag car.
i am definatly going to look into different props. Right now I have a 15 1/2 x 17 stainless no idea of the brand. slip is around 12-13 so im guessing its working nicly

just because your slip is 12 % dous'nt mean you cant get a nice gain from a four blade that will give more bow lift and carry the load better.
