Just wondering if a v pad boat can be made to run with an outboard with a jet pump ? Im thinking that the turbulance off the pad would load the pump with airated water. Im figuring that it would not work, just would like to hear opinions.

Reason for asking. I have a skeeter Wrangler 16'. Basicly a hydrostream viper hull splash bass boat. I also have a great running stock 225 looper. There are some areas I would like to boat that are better suited for a jet.

Silly question, but worth asking.

I have seen triton metal boat with a pad run with a outboard jet. It works ok but you will have to extend the pad to right infront of the intake. Any set back will cause the water to hit the pump above the intake and slow the rig down.Remember it will not be fast enough to get the boat on the pad with a jet.

Thanks for the info. I was also thinkIng that a hydraulic jack plate may help. There definatly would be quite a bit of setback between the pad and pump intake, even with a 6" hydro plate.

yes, never use any set back with a jet it just won't work well. In some cases the water will run up the motor and spill in the boat!! I use CMC 5" vertical extension, raises motor 5" with no set back.

Would a k-plane trim tab mounted behind the pad make it work ? Thinking it could be mounted slightly above the pad and adjusted to prevent water running up. Also install a hydro plate to get proper height with the pump. Of course as little set back as possible. Figure I will mount up the motor and run it with a prop, and then experiement with a pump to see if I can run the river. I figure by overpowering with this 225 might help it work. Do you think it could get on the pad with this setup ?

The K plane just might work, but the transition from boat pad to the k plane will need to be smooth or it will feed air to the jet intake. The problem with a 450 lb motor on a 16' pad boat is that it will sit deep at idle,so you wont be able to stop in shallow water. Plus I think it will porpoise with that much weight on the transom. Remember there is a 40% loss in efficency with a jet, they claim 30% but its a bit more. I doubt 50 mph will get it on the pad. IMO you would be better off with a 18'x60" wide or 20'x70"wide alumn flat bottom or jet tunnel boat with a 70hp or v-4. Then the boat will float in 6" of water and still go 30-40 Mph. And if you bolt plastic to the bottom of boat you can run right over rocks with no problems. However you will never know unless you try so good luck, and let me know how it worked if you decide to try your idea.

Here is my idea of a shallow runner without the speed loss.

Well looks like an outboard jet just does not make any sence. I will just setup this boat with a prop. Hope the boat floats and doesnt rip the transom of.
