Is there any difference in a 260-280-300 crank? If so please explain.

The early 260's(pre 95?)had a slide on roller bearing on top, I don't know if a drag ever came this way. 96ish 260's, ALL 280's, have a pressed on bearing similar to the bottom bearing, also there's a difference in sealing rings, if I recall early 7, later 9?

correct!!!!
i have seen some 95's that are big bearing, and some 96's that are small bearing!!! go figure.

also the early 260's were small bearing cranks. they dont work in the big bearing motors. they are the same size shaft, but the shoulder on the crankshaft is different. some guys tried to re cut the shoulder down so it would work, but not the right way to go. JMO

there were some big bearing cranks made with a sleeve that goes over the crank for the top bearing. they had issues. cant replace it either no longer avail from merc.

hope it helps.

Guys thanks for the response. my motor accepts a big top bearing crank so as long as I find another big top bearing crank everything shod be good.
Thanks again

make sure it doesnt have a sleeve.. if you look down on the bearing you will see the the sleeve. it is very thin, but you can see it.. good luck
