helping guy nextdoor.question on lube for 1996 3.0L volvo drive.its a coneclutch,and i thought they all used 30w oil? am I wrong?

They use 10W30 oil. I know it sounds weird but it's true at least for the 280. There is an oil pump in the lower gearcase that brings the oil to the top.

Merc Hi Performance, there is no oil pump in the lower on the SX's.

The SX's when they came out used Mobil 1 gear lube until Volvo got it bottled with their label on it. OMC was in partnership with Volvo at the time and used their brand of gear oil. The ealier model 290's on down used the same oil as the motor, but the SX was completely different. It was basically an OMC King Cobra drive with the Volvo version of the cone clutch shifting in the upper unit.
