Just ran on hose for the first time a good deal of warm water leaking from behind the lower mount cover. From looking at the picture on the omc parts page it looks like there must be a hole rotted through. Does the mount come off without having to disassemble the powerhead ?? or is it just the 4 cover bolts and the 2 swivelbracket bolts ??

Thank you

The cover sandwiches the mount in. The mount bolts to the swivel. You'll have to pry it out... most I've seen are stuck in there. There are certain places the mid is suppose to "leak". Some have gaps between the mid and lower.

From your description, sounds like you have water leaking from around the two lower motor mounts at the bottom of the midsection. An unusual place for a leak for sure. Once you get the 4 mount cover bolts off, you may be able to visually see something without further disassembly. You can then decide if you need to remove the two front bolts and the mount. Usually that mount is pressed firmly into the socket of the midsection housing. Depending on what you find, you may be able to aluminum weld the leaking area-that housing is pretty substantial.

Some motors use the midsection "wall of water" overflow to cool the rubber mounts

Make sure the sm drain holes in the gearcase are open or the water that leaks around the driveshaft and waterpump will build up in the midsection.

brought to mind a question regarding my outboard hopefully some one can shed some light. I have a newly rebuild 1978 235 running on a 20 " 150 midsection. The engine is an original 235 but i had to replace the mid section and various other parts to run the 79 on drives. Any way all seems fine apart from i am getting exhausted warm water exiting at the joint between the midsection and the drive just by the anode and above the releaf port in the drive. It seems to start after a min or so after running on muffs and would say that it is almost under pressure or the leg is full of water around the outside of the tuner and exhaust and pushing it out as there is no where else for the water to go

I have removed the drive and checked everything but all seems ok. I have sealed the main turner seals in with sealant and it has not really made a difference.

There is exhausted warm water also coming out of the drilling hole at the front of the midsection above the drive and also out of the small drilling next to the gear selector plate (Downwards direction) indicating there is water in the leg (around the outside of the exhaust but inside the leg). My concern is that if the leg is full of water it will work its way down the selector shaft and in to the box

Is this normal?? I cant figue out if the midsection is meant to fill up with water around the out side of the main turner and exhaust tube and weather it is meant to have water in the places i have.

Please any help would be greatly appriciated
