thanksVery few made period. Sterndrive OR outboard. Mostly in the mid/late 80's. Scott Laymen, who was in production & sales at Cigarette, raced one in offshore for a couple years back then, with a single JohnRude 3.6 GT V-8, on a bracket. Thats about the extent of the 21's outboard racing history. What info do you need?

Interesting. Id like to know more about any manufacturer that made 21 foot outboard offshore boats. I know of the Challenger.

Challengers, Shadows and Superboats were raced extensively in Offshore during the late 70's and 80's. All of them were designed by George Linder. The original hull (Challenger) debuted in 1976 to coincide with the introduction of the (then new) V6 outboards. That hull was a modernized stepchild of the older wooden Eltro hulls from Long Island which featured a non constant vee and great rough water handling and speed. Eltros were raced offshore in lengths from 18 to 23 feet. Other offshore racing hulls in that size range included North American's, Souters, Glastrons, Dorsetts and American Fin designs, but the 21 Cigarette was not a factor in racing. Truth is the smaller Cigarettes and Donzi's really did not have the speed or handling characteristics needed for competition.

there was a 21 I/O here in jax, the owner died several years ago, not sure what happened to the boat. If anyone is interested I can check around...

I was just going to mention that 21 in Jax, was over at Lambs for a while... last time I saw it, it was on a beat up trailer with a tarp over it. I have done some full restorations on several cigarettes back in the day (28-35' flat decks) and it was easy to see why they were not very competitive. They were overbuilt tanks. So solid and built to last!!! My buddy was a real "Original" Cig guru. He still owns one of Don's leather Cig jackets...

This a great info page. I looked at a 21 Cig with an inboard though up hear many moons ago. I thnk i have an artical some were also were some mag tested it. Probably Hotboat? She had a 350 in consumer mode if I remember. An outboat 21 would be really cool. Cant remember ever seeing one.

When T2x mentioned some racing hull configurations from back in the day made me think of the progretion and advancment in boats from over ther years. Though the STV tunnels Mirage and the like are the rockets of today the 22Tallons,Cougars,Liberator, Skaters in 21 and 24 and the like are the faster consumer tunnels in the size range. Allisons,STV21,Challangers,Tuff,Bullet,Velocity,progrestions are some off the Vee hulls that boogie. History tells us that again maybe soon maybe later But these hulls though great right now in time Fast boaters in the future will look back and say wow Those old boats sure were fast for the day. I wonder what materials and speed we can expect in the future for fast consumer hulls? I know one thing they wont be made with any wood. http://www.powerboatlistings.com/powerimg/m/13704/main.jpg

This ones forsale for 9500 right now with a 200 Blackmax 12. http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/13704 Pretty cool hull!! Bet with a 300XS she would be a fun boat with her very deep vee. 24deg deadrise she looks like. Check out the setback brace. Cool stuff right there.

Yep thats what I wrote 9500 right now with a 200 blackmax 12, OK add reads 12500 but i bet he comes down.;)

You wernt kidding they have a very nice interiour. Ive always liked the center console look in some boats like the Skater and Talons. Even a 4stroke on there like the SHO would be a nice combo. The more I look at that hull the more I like her. Has great potential for a 80+mph big lake boat or a fair weather ocean boat. Though Im sure even at only 21ft she handels swells just fine thinking more of protection with the low profile from spray and rain on the chuck. Sweet!
