I'm writting this in an urgent way as I've got a phone interview for a position in Williston, VT this afternoon. The job is with Department of Homeland Security. I'm a DAC so its just transfer from one agency to another (same benefits etc).
Just need to know about the area. I've posted several of these, but this one seems to be the biggest nibble.
Our research as shown Vermont to be cold and lots of snow but the weather is similar to where I live in Germay along with the landscape. Taxes are also amongst the highest in the nation. Other than that, there's Burlington about 10 minutes away. Boating is not much of an option for us as our main funds would be towards setting up a household etc. Perhaps later a rig would occupy our driveway. Other thn that.... just provide and motivate me to make this decision. I've been praying for sure.
Thanks for the info you provide,
Jamie

Williston is Burlington. About 40k people live there. It's beautiful. People are pretty cool, it's a college town. However very liberal. Lots of Vermonters are conservative, but this town = not. VERY cold and nasty in winter, absolutely stunning in summer.

+1 on the lousy winters that John mentions. I work 60 miles south and the winters are still bad...
Lake Champlain is big water, and deep, can get VERY rough. South Bay area near the bottom of the lake is more protected and tends to be calmer, I see small bass boats running around there all summer.

If you've never been around snow,it's a lot,but don't overlook the other 3 beautiful seasons and activities available. Consider the fact there are none of the many incidents of the South and West,ie. hurricanes, floods, droughts, etc. AND,if you waterski, you're gonna love snowskiing! Since you like boating, you'll like snowmobiling!! Good Luck, whatever your decision!

You get used to the snow we left Maine which had 120-140" of snow fall to NH on the Vermont border.
As was said Lake Champlain is BIG and relatively close when you get to the boat again.
Also stated lots of moonbats but, likewise lots of conservatives.
Vermont also has no restriction on concealed carry. ;)

i forgot to mention the roughness of the lake. I have seen, no exaggeration, 10' waves at the midsection.
And getting used to the snow? Maybe...but getting sick of it too.
