I have a 2.4 BP block that has a crack in the aluminum part of the bridge. It has a steel sleeve in it and the sleeve is okay. Should I try t o weld it or leave it alone?

personally i would think that if ya knw a good welder and had him biuld up the aluminum enough to have the boring done for a sleeve and have a sleeve installed then still have some aluminum left there to support the steel bridge would be good
someone said they had one that the steel bridge from the sleeve bowed outward towards the rings?
hey jay, US-1, greg moss, dan agnew, whats your opinion on this? big-d has a nice block that would be great to be able to salvage
No no no, dont weld it. The fix for a cracked bridge is a steel sleeve. Done 100s of them with no preblem.

Just wanting to make sure before I spend too much time. It has std sleeves in four cyl, 2 nic.
Dave
Get rid of those last two Nics and make the thing really fast.

I remember reading somewhere that a crack in the aluminum bridge won't matter with a steel sleeve, but a missing aluminum bridge will be a problem because the steel sleeve bridge won't transfer the heat right without the aluminum behind it. Anyone hear anything like that?

so then after boring it to accept the sleeve the aluminum part of the bridge isnt too thin?, i woulda thought building it up a bit by welding and fixing the crack and then boring would have been a good thing that way the bridge is not only fixed but still thick also
i guess it's not necissary from the sounds of it, thats cool to though, less work :D
