You boys keep your heads down and stay safe.....I was wondering if it was going to hit Florida or further up the East coast. Either way hope any in it's path are prepaired and stay safe.

Yeah its all about the turn for sure, a few degrees intially makes a huge difference further up the coast.

Roger that Shane. Last track was almost a direct hit on Hatteras. Typical because Hatteras is the closest point to the Gulf Stream on the East Coast. The hope for us is that it makes the leap over to Gulf Stream into the Cold labradore Current waters and fizzles out. Maybe that Low pressure coming in from the west will help push it out.

Sorry you missed Sunday it was a great day on the water. Any sign of your pet snake again?

Yep, meant to say go East and not further West. We're hoping for the best but hopefully prep'd for the worst. I haven't done a major storm in a long while and am in no hurry now. Bud when this thing passes we'll meet up for a clean up session around the houses.

Yeah its all about the turn for sure, a few degrees intially makes a huge difference further up the coast.

the longer it stays over water the stronger it will stay, its at 200 miles wide right now so if this thing doesnt go a little west to weaken we are looking at a nasty situation.

Storz

Most recent path has it moved back to the west, making a direct hit on the OBX

HStream1
08-25-2011, 06:37 AM
Yep. North Carolina (Hatteras) it is on a direct path to hit the heel of the boot as a Cat 3. South Eastern Virginia will receive part of the blunt also as a Cat 2. From Virginia on (Eastern Shore) it will fizzle to a Cat 1 and then a tropical storm.

Assuming it maintains it's current path.

All we can hope for is a westerly Low come across and push it over the warm gulf stream waters into the cool labradore currents and it will fizzle taking a hard right out to sea.

So I go to the post office to mail a letter. I decide to swing by the local beer store. No beer or wine sales effective 11:00 a.m. this morning. But you can go to the local ABC store (Government controlled) and buy Liquor?????????????????????????? WTF. I don't drink Liquor.

So the owner of the store who knows me well. says: Bud they told me I couldn't sell it but they didn't tell me I couldn't give it away . Come around back just incase and get all you want.

Two cases later and I'm on my way home. Heck I don't drink any during the week anyway. So I think with the 24 I already had + the two 18 packs I'll be OK :D.

NO, NO and no.

Piers arent covered

We did not have house damage, we sit up higher. So we did not have any insurance claims.

There was a lot of houses in the area that got destroyed. If they had flood insurance , they found out its a pain in the butt. Some people were in trailers for years trying to settle.

If the water came up 4 feet in your house, they only covered 4 feet of drywall. You could google "Isabel Bowleys quarters flood insurance problems". It was a real mess for the people affected. On our road, just past my house the elevation dips down, there was homes with the 1st floor under water. Very bad .

Yes they are. I heard somebody say last night it could be the storm of the century. Give me a break. A 4-8 ft storm surge? Katrina hit Gulfport with something like a 27 ft surge. Not to mention Rita which was stronger than Katrina and Ike was pretty bad. I know it's still a dangerous storm but they're blowing it way out of proportion

HStream1

Typically if it tracks like it is. It will fizzle. Our inland waters have cooled alot over the last two weeks. It will cross land, then water , land, water etc.

Usually that takes the umph out of em.

Now if it starts to track North West, it will be a different story. This area of the coast doesn't fair well with catching the easterly feeder band from a storm when it gets to the west of the inland water ways. It's more about water damage than wind at that point.

On the other hand if it starts to track North East back out to sea it could build again. I saw Dennis do exactly that in 99. It actually went out and came back in 5 times in three days.

Bellhaven, NC received alot of damage, lost roofs etc. but it was due to Tornado's. So they are a threat as well.

I'm sorry you missed the point of my return post. It was to inform that the Fox reporter (as you posted) was incorrect. If he was even on the outerbanks (which I doubt) his information was most likely third hand and hyped just like most of this has been.

As far as my statement pertaining to where I live. I clearly said I live within 35 miles of Hatteras (as the crow flies). I actually live within (from my front porch) eye distance of the Currituck Sound. After that 4 mile body there is the Atlantic Ocean.

I live here you don't. I have first hand information.

As far as hurricanes. I take them all seriously. I've seen the weak turn to Bad and the Bad turn to weak. And the bad stay bad and get Badder.

As far as comparing Andrew to Irene??? Well thats like comparing Apples to Pomagranitrs.

Hope this clears up any confusion you may have.

Looks like some inland areas got it worse than the coast. Was it more due to Water than wind Joe?

I'd hafta say it was 50/50. Here at the house it was the wind. I went for a ride yesterday and it seems like half of Greenville was under water. For a so called minor storm this thing did a ****load of damage.

I listened to them all day long yesterday till i got sick. I switched to the Weather Channel. They actually described everything in a civil manner and didn't try to hype everything up.

I was hoping for some looting from our Illegals and Ubangies. I needed to run a few clips just for kicks and giggles. But that was just another dissapointment.

Sorry for your loss! :D

The water got up to 4 feet deep in my parents garage over the night, luckily this morning it had receded back in to the canal. Now they begin the process of cleaning it all up, replacing drywall, carpet etc etc

once that moisture gets going, :nonod: my parents had to completely strip the whole house, nothing but bare studs through the whole house, you could stand at the front door and see the entire inside of a 2 story house. mold is a mean little cridder. all the best, glad it was not any worse. fun out

They have a finished garage and second "outdoor" kitchen on the first level. Luckily the house is on stilts and the main living area stayed high and dry. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get some. The OBX took a beating

We made out great here:thumbsup:. Water came up, but no worst then a bad high tide. Surge came at dead low tide and by the second high tide the wind had already turned around and was blowing out of the NW.;) Chuck

Have not heard from him since Saturday. His house won't be under water, but he lives on a hill side, so hopefully he didn't get washed down the hill.

Power is out everywhere, so communication will be difficult.

We got about 5 1/2" of rain around Albany, NY. Some flooding, a land slide up in Troy, a lot of roads wash outs. Durham which is abou half between Alby and I got 14 1/2" LOTS of serious flooding down around Alby's area. Lost power about 8:30PM and still waiting on that to come back. Thank god for generators!!!

Back to normal here in Hertford. Lots of trees down in my area, we lost 3 but none on the house. Lost power for 24 hours, blown transformer, but overall we did good thanks to the generator. It saved my butt more than once in Puerto Rico and a few months back in the states and it's still earning it's keep, the beer stayed cold

My parents backyard at about 7pm Saturday night, you can see his boat across the 'canal' with the blue cover. The water in this picture is about 6-7 feet higher than it normally is. The tops of those posts you can see near his lift are about chest height when standing on the dock, and the dock is usually about 3-4 feet above the water level in the canal.

Great to hear that dude...mean it..been though some disasters my end too, WA state. Had a massive .."Pineapple express", here like a firehouse on us, ocaen water, jet stream, rain for a good month +1/2. Lost 38 houses up on the hill. Land slide, slow. We are a 600 private HOA, end the peninsula, got ZERO help from the state, but in there wisdom, put a 1000 year moratorium, and new building any living house. Early 2000's, and ..either after, or before, our 6.8 earthquake, much structure house damage. Thing is, them wimpy Libs, get complacent, aint got a clue to how the world works, and aint got a damn thing to do with the gov. The "Oh poor me?" BULL PUPPY PIES. hate to break the news here, but life can sure get wild, at times, and ..(oh hell, be a good "Boyscout"...PREPARE WORST, HOPE FOR THE BEST. Heres a pic one our windstorms, off the ocean, west coast. We only got one road out here, and this one was not usable. For a day or so. Buddy mine works power CO, lives here here, "Lineman", always has the bucket trunk with him. Look bad, in the pic? BS, they bust there ass, and it was fixed in ONE DAY! AND, if any do a "Cabo", March vacation? Its ALL THE POWER WORKERS, MOTELS BOOKED YEARLY, WHEN STORMS QUIT HERE..."party time!". And any bitch the electric power bills? Try it without any. Anyway, glad ya doing OK buddy boy, and stay strong....it the way to survive life. Be well, Robby241732
