Having trouble doing new avatar, but who cares! Heres full size.. Its a crank up fresh "Frankenmerc", build, 15.6 Flatty, hull 350 lbs, total package with my 200 pound ass, still around 1000lbs. HP the motor?, who knows without a dyno. Seat time on a punch, gets ya a orgasm! And yep, I had a Switzer/real XS, in the 70's, and those decals I STILL think, best, ON, the best motors made! And don't say needs this or that, ya should, ya outta, etc..."thats not an XS louvered wrap" I KNOW that. And VERY hard to find! AND, I know a hot rod dude here, and my Merc Guru has stacks of wraps, and the hotrod dude does "Louvers", so over the off season, us will get together, and punch a wrap, to see if we can duplicate. And I'm 61 years old, too old for "bling", like the old 60's hot rods, either "show, or "GO". I'm doing the ""sleeper" part now, and next build will be a cage "RatRod"!. And NEVER mess with "old farts"...(the only reason we pull out the race, is we gotta go pee, and catch ya again!):p;):D:thumbsup:

Easiest way to resize with software every windows OS owner has, use MS paint. Click on resize/skew ( think is what it is, on my mac right now so can't step by step it) You can crop and shrink to fit into an avatar. Mess around with it a few times until you get it right. Just remember click save as, and not save. That way if you mess up, you can always reopen the original.

What is the prop an elephant ear? How does it run with it? What exactly is your motor? I will try and get some pictures of my inline today. thanks Rick

Found the prop on ebay, and its perfect for the set up. Stamped 12x24, but lots of cup. Had a 14x28 s blade on my old Switzer/XS. Prop spins and grabs real nice on a full WOT punch, tops out over 5500. I tried a 12x26 chopper, but a real death grip on the wheel. Seems too much blade in the water. I finally got a good breakin 10 hours the motor, still need to tweak the timing up a bit, do some fine tuning. Don't know WOT speed yet, speedo pitot is a little high, as hull although flat, twin fins, has 1 inch dropped chines, and a 8 inch pad. Rides air. This motor should be a honest 135. Heres the skinny off my Merc guru. He did the motor, while I did the boat.
The powerhead I am building for you was originally a '72 1150.
The '72 1150 is a choked down 1350 with a few flow restrictions to give the lower HP rating so Merc wouldn't have to come up with a different powerhead to fill that HP range for the consumer market.
Initially this 1150 needed a rebuild because the inner water jacket had cracked and let water into #3 which was trying to die when I rescued the beast. It still had 95 psi on #3, but the rings had started to seize and consequently had scored the bore.
I had #3 bored .015 and installed a new piston there.
I had all holes pro-honed while I was at it and mic'd for roundness, etc to insure the beast was still within factory tolerences.
The block surfaces were machined too to insure everything was flat in the water jacket areas for a correct sealing.
All other pistons were carefully inspected, mic'd, & cleaned. I replaced one standard size piston too, but (4) of the (6) original pistons went back into their original holes.
Everybody got brand new rings & needle bearings.
The crankshaft got new main bearings.
The end caps got new seals & so did the crankcase.
I installed 1500 reed blocks and reeds, which meausre out the same as the original 1350 reeds.
I am installing '72 1400 carburetors - which are virtually identical to the original 1350 carbs & I am installing the original .0785main jets required for the 1350 at sea level.
The exhaust tuner plate and inner water jacket are both NOS 1350 parts that I had machined to insure they too are flat so they will seal correctly.
These modifications: Main jets, reed blocks, tuner & inner wj complete the conversion of the 1150 to a true 1350.
The only difference between the 1350 and the 1400 blocks is the 1350 had an oval tuner to the mid-section and the 1400 had the dual square port tuner to the mid-section. And,...The inner wj & tuner plate configuration changed barely.

Reason posting this, is me, and my Merc guru here, simple love too build chit. Both retired now, he's a ex-cop, I'm a ex outlaw biker..(we be cool, both solid gearheads!). Yep, I know money buys speed and "bling", and I got no complaint, those that can afford some the monster boats, many here play with. Did it when I was young too. But the slow down in life, no more "alarm clocks", the time put in a "build", is whats boating is all about. The blood, sweat, tears and beers, late night.."we should try this, bench racing, be most the fun. And old school "build it", is still cool, as its the way many us old timers did it, as stuff back then, was not to be "bought", some internet "click to buy". We had to MAKE IT! Couple more pix the build, and (hey, Greg, why only two attachments per post??)
