I have a 78 evunrude 140. Bored and stroked to death, and couldnt be happier with it. Will do whatever I want it to on my 18 ft bass boat. But that cowl looks so goofy, since its a v-4(short and out of place looking). Will a v-6 cowl off of the same year model omc fit? Maybe a johnson with the vents possibly? And what would i expect to pay for the v-6 cowl? As long as it aint cracked I dont care what shape its in, cause im overhauling the entire boat this winter and new paint and such all around. Thanks in advance!

If its the 2.0 litre 140 I think that the V6 cowl will fit on the pan. Look for a used GT or XP V6 cowl for the vents, they are very cheap now as there are so many around, $100 for a half decent one....but the main thing to look for is that the rubber trim around the bottom of the cowl is in good shape as it is stapled into the hood and a pain in the ass to replace.
Being that its a 78 though it maybe a 1.6 or 1.8 engine which is slightly smaller. You could buy a newer squarer cowl 90,100,110,112,115hps from the 80s or 90s before they went from 90 degree to 60 degree V4s, or what i was going to do was buy a V6 cowl and pan for my 1978 85hp and adapt it. Good luck.

I think as long as its a V6 X-Flow of the same vintage it should fit. Not sure about the later "XP/GT" cowls
