View Full Version : Mallory switch boxes, any users?

I may have a double firing box on my 260, as I saw number 1 cylinder mark flashing while checking number 3.

I am going to replace the box with a Mallory 9-25100. I have one, and I'm thinking I may just do both. Has anyone had good results and life from these boxes?

Thanks in advance, Ron

Same here, looks to be good quality and no problems. But never tried in a performance application yet, if you try them let us know how they work.

I will run them this weekend and let you know how they work.

Over 8000 is my goal. I replaced all the other electronics chasing a cold right side egt. I did not want to lean the ACU till it was even. I'll report.

the only things that will kill one whole bank are switch boxes or stator. just learned this myself!

The Mallory boxes are available through Hanneys or similar outfitters.

I just replaced the stator, trigger and coils. I hope this squares up my EGTs.

Here is a place near Tampa that has them cheaper than I can get them from my warehouse. $112.00 each, shipped

I called Mallory, these are the correct ones for the 260. I read up on them and they have some improvements over OEM ones like dual capacitors. These are made in Germany, there is a good chance the OEM ones come from china now.

How far off are your egts? What do your plugs look like?
Have you checked your injectors? Could have one (or more) that is flooding.
Could be a leaking gasket.

The plugs all look the same, I have not done a full throttle dead test though. I just had the injectors done by Brucato. The right side is a coupe hundred degrees colder than the left. I have not run it out since replacing the stator/trigger yet, so it could be better. It seems better, but I only ran it across the lake with a full load. I just caught the double firing thing while timing it.

The egt will be slightly higher on the right at some rpm ranges, but I'm gonna feel stupid if the gauge or probe is bad...the motor runs exceptionally well overall. I don't see any signs of a bad head gasket or anything. Compression is at 130# across the board while cold.

If you have the probes in the exhaust cover bottom bolts they may never be perfect cuz of the cyl offset between banks, think its around 1". I put mine in the exhaust adapter but it is a pain, got to thread a piece of stainless tube in the low bank cuz its exposed to water from the underside of the hsg.

They are threaded into the chest cover, pretty low. The cowl pan is notched to access them. I should swap the wires and see what happens...

Good plan would eliminate a probe problem for sure, just do it after ya change the box's so ya know whats done what.

For sure. I really want to pull some fuel off if it is square. My fuel pressure is slightly higher than what the injectors are set up for so it's a tad rich I believe. It runs smooth as a fighting motor at 2300 and pulls like an animal to 7500, but then won't pull much higher unless you leg it out. I probably should do some testing alone..I always seem to have a passenger or two..

Never screwed with fuel press on a 2 stroke but 2-3lbs over stock on cars seems to work good, better than stock press. If your just a couple lbs over would think thats not an issue you would notice it more at lower rpms.

My ACU is setup and curved for 42#'s of fuel pressure, but I see over 50. I think it will deliver more pounds of fuel with the higher pressure. The time the milliseconds that the injector fires in conjunction with fuel pressure will determine total fuel quantity delivered. I can trim the ACU up to 15%. I personally like higher fuel pressure for better atomization.
Even on automotive stuff, I like to be conservative on injector size, and rather cycle it longer.

I have not touched the ACU since I had Brucato re-flash it. They really did a nice job matching it to my setup.

How did the Mallory switchbox's work?

Dave,
I sort of lost this thread, thanks for posting.

The switch boxes worked fantastic. I ran my RE 27 and took it out. I ran it up to 77 or 7800 pretty quick and it pulls strong. Still having the issue with the EGT..in fact it went cold completely while on a hard pass. I still have not switched the two. Is there water being the exh. chest cover that could leak in there? It is not here for me to look at. Anyway, it was running too well to think there was an issue other than the gauge at this point. Plugs look good, a little rich maybe.

I need to get a better life vest and helmet before I start raising the motor and spinning it way the heck up there. I've only really raised the jack plate an inch or so on a power pass at this point. Need more "alone" seat time. This weekend may be that time. I just want to have the safety equip. before I bring it any further over 90's.

Thanks for posting how they work got a cust boat that needs them, wanted to see if they were ok. All aftermarket boxs on back order except Mallory, wondered if I needed to upsell to OE. Just trying to keep the cost down the guy is on holidays and wants to save money any way he can.
Did you try swaping your probes harness and all to oposite sides?

Thanks again Dave
