I made the mistake of disassembling my flywheel and am wondering if there is a procedure to ensure I assemble it properly and get the timing right? Such as setting the motor to top dead center, etc. I have the factory manual but saw nothing listed. Any help is appreciated. thx.

set motor at tdc, put the center on the crank, then line up the plate and outer ring with the pointer for tdc, install the bolts

Actually the timing is in the hub. You need the flywheel oriented properly so you can see the timing, however.
#1 to TDC (close is good enough). Install flywheel so 0° is near where the timing pointer will be when you put the flywheel cover on.
Use a little loctite, and torque to specs. Ain't no way you want a flywheel flexplate to come loose.

have to do the same for a mid-eightees 200 merc, flywheel is off - can i use the same method? Powerhead serial #6626004. I dont have a dial indicator, can I set #1 to TDC, and put the flywheel in a specific spot with the pointer? Sorry for hijacking thread, I will start a new one if yours isnt completed
