Lots of "African American" hookers, plenty of pimps, drug dealers, and the remains of Elvis,..................take your pick.

Don't go near the south or east side after dark, you will meet ton's of darkies, when going to Memphis always carry your peacemaker.:D
I travel through Memphis quite often but don't stop to much. I hear the Bluffs Area is the place to go.

Thanks Bill anywhere else in the area other than Memphis to stop for the night that maybe a little more "user friendly", maybe a little farther North?

On the south side of Memhis on I-55 is a town called Olive Branch, Miss. It's only about 10-12 miles south of I-40, it's a real nice area with lots of bars and restaurants. I've layed over in that area before. The road is Hwy 302, it says Big Horn Lake Rd, I believe the exit # is 289.

Ya gotta go see the "Jungle Room" at Graceland.
Even if you're not an Elvis fan Graceland was an eye opener for me as to the way he lived.

If you want to run over to Nashville, Jacks BBQ on Broadway is the BEST. There are great blues bars and BB Kings place is there too. 2nd street and broadway have dozens of places to go and the people there are great. No ghetto scene till you get to far away from the main drag to care.
If you can make it to Nashville on your way, they are about 200 miles apart.

Memphis is Beale Street. More bars and restaurants in 2-3 blocks than you could ever do in a week. All the big name joints in Blues music and food. BBQ is king, 200-300 restaurants in the area. Biggest name is the Rendezvous. Check the link. http://www.hogsfly.com/TheRestaurant.php Walk from Beale Street map---http://www.mapquest.com/mq/4-OdSWGoYYL0wTxV5W The biggest best hotel The Peabody google it.
