Last year I bought a 71 Fire bird no a TA or Formula just a plain jane Firebird that had some work done on the engine. It had brand new flow master exhaust system edelbrock intake and edelbrock carb and valve covers. It need some work on the body some rust on the out side of the quarter pannels. But it ran really strong balls to the walls. I bought it out of Bosie but the car same out of Spokane Wash. I haggled the guy down to 2 grand. I got it to turn some money on. Any way I figured I had a 350 or a 400 poncho under the hood no big deal. About two weeks ago I thought just for the hell of it I am going to check the casting nos. The first thing I checked was the casting nos for the heads no 46's I checked on line found out there 69 400/428 heads . Ok I have a 400 . Well better check the casting nos on the block I took a wire brush and cleaned off the paint and found YH HUH what is this? Came in and checked and low and behold I got a freeking 428! I was so stoked! The dude that sold it to me never checked it. They only made them for 3 years so I got a 1500 to 2000 dollar motor for free with my purchase! So guys check them casting nos on your cars you will never know what you will find!
