We had our BOA Portsmouth,Ohio OPC race this weekend. As a half time activity we ran some vintage Opc's. I had my Dutchman with a stacker and Dale Littlejohn broght his beautiful Glastron CT-15 with a stacker. We ran them Saturday. I think this is probably the 1st time in probably 35 or so years that inline Merc stackers has ran on a race course! Here are a couple of pictures. My Dutchman still needs a lot of work but it ran and it was an awesome sight to see 2 stackers running side by side! 240052240053240054240055240056This was the funnest race I have had the pleasure to race in for a long time.

I also want to thank my friend Kevin Klosterman for driving the Dutchman Saturday(I was too busy with the OPC race) and most of all my buddy Mike Bruns(even if he is an Inboard racer) for helping me get the Stacker ready to go in the water. Without Mike, I could not have gotten the boat in the water in time to run. Thanks guys!!

largecar, that is awesome! I attended the Cross Lake, NY vintage regatta this past weekend and we had just three...me (with my '76 15R Allison/Evinrude 135), Roger Hinsdale and his beautiful Molinari/Johnson RS, and Rich Luhrs with his awesome twin S3000 powered Switzer Wing. We had a blast but all of use agreed that we really need to communicate better and schedule Vintage events better so that we have the best turnout possible of OPC vintage boats. It would have been great to run my little Allison with your two boats.

Next year we will get it together John. We also has a beautiful 13' Critchfield with a 75 Hustler, 2 13' Allisons, one with a 75 stinger and one with a 85 merc.

Awsome sound with both of them on the water at the same time. Hopefully next year we can get a couple more

Thanks again for inviting me it was great.
Kevin and i were having a blast out there and i think everyone loved the noise.
I was really impressed with the amount of people interested in the older boats.
There is alot of racing history in that town and i think they were happy to have it back.
Cant wait to do it again.
Dale
One of the guys i talked to was Ralph Dyer
Great old guy he told some awsome stories about racing and hanging out with old man kiekhaefer
He said he made his own boats DyerCraft.
Does anyone know any histoy about these boats?

Sorry we couldn't make it, but a promise is a promise. Here's another promise. If you want us there next year, we will come. I hope to have the Powercat and the Wing running next year so it should be interesting. If John Tiger, Roger, Mark Rotharmel, and Ted Boyd (with his wing) can make it along with Ken Kitson, Jim Hunt and maybe even John Sherlock, this could finally put us over the top in terms of a Vintage OPC presence.

This really surprises me. You gotta believe there's still ton's of this stuff tucked away in barns all over the US and Canada. When I started the Rumble on the River 10 yrs ago I called the APBA about placing an ad in the Propeller to get those guys to come to my event. I though a/any display would be a huge attraction for those of us that know where it started and maybe even more so for those that don't. The APBA wouldn't allow my ad due to it being a non APBA event but still think/believe/wish this should be a large group??? Aren't there enough owners out there that would enjoy just having them on display like the Stock/Mod collectors??
Just really thought this would take off instantly and never really did. I know and can guess a lot of the reasons but still have to be missing something?

I'm not so sure about that. The (quality) wooden tunnel hulls were "rode hard and put up wet" by the factories and subsequent drivers and the prevailing idea was that the hulls came from an endless spigot so you simply broke one and took another. How many actual Molinari's, Goat boats, Scotti's, Velden's etc are still out there is anybody's guess, but I don't see a lot of them appearing out of the ozone. The same can be said for the earlier multi engine Switzers, Jones tunnels, Powercats, etc...

I agree. Like PT boats, they were expendable. Something like 2,000 PT boats were built, but I think only 4 survive and only 1 is seaworthy.

Good point. I still, in my mind believe there are many reading this w/their jewels in a barn behind their house.
I knew a guy w/two barns full of dying boats in them so who knows.
I REALLY hope you're wrong.

Thanks i just got it put back together after the blow over several years ago.
On the stacks yes the ones you saw were angled and the now belong to Mark Nelson.
He is building a replica of the twin engine drag boat that they came off of.
He got one set and i got the other.
He Asked that i not alter them and after he found a set of normal ones we traded.
They look better on the boat and still make lots of noise.

Barry- Dale,
It was awesome to be out there running with you guys, those motors brought back big time memories!!! It was amazing to me how knowledgeable the people of Portsmouth were about the vintage boats. They were very interested in the vintage stuff as much or more than the 120's , 60's, or Super Sports. Awesome event and I hope there are more vintage events in the future. Barry/ Dale I have some pics of your boats, that I will get to you guys. A picture of the Critchfield down the front straight...

Wow that looks like a good event to attend. Boat looks and sounds good Dale. Wish you could have gotten it wet at the river run a few weeks back. Did a good job rebuilding it. You can be proud of that one.

Used to run a stacker in the bay...... cops would show up and tell us not to run it.....next day we would be back at it......Kids. HeeHee..... got away with more in those dazzzzzs. I have seen many wood boats rot/die. I have 2 that are in dry storage. Have a buddy with a bunch of wirldwinds in a barn and I got him to buy some small hydros when they came up for sale. There is some stuff hidden by wise people..... .... .... HeeHee.
