Have a 1995 mariner Efi 200 - ser num 0g202025. Looking for the lightswitch that keeps getting flipped to run past 2000 rpm. I can't duplicate the problem or make it happen or not happen and do not what causes it run good or bad. It idles great no matter what and trolls great at about 1100. I can step on it and when it is good it runs like a scalded dog. When it is "broke" it will only run about 2000 rpm. I will let off and it might take off or it might stay broke till that gremlin flips the switch and wham it throws your head back and runs great. I have noticed that when it is in it's broke state of mind I can hold the gas steady at say 2200 rpm and when it decides not be broke the rpms will jump up to around 3400. This is in neutral though, under load it will not budge past 2000 . Have replaced all the fuel lines, drained and cleaned both tanks and rebuilt the vst and everything else in that fuel mang system I could get a part for. I was told either switch boxes power packs , or stator. If it was switch boxes would it not idle like crap if one side is not firing. The middle plug wire on port side is grey charred looking also. Thanks for the help.

I know from chaseing something similar - the switchboxes can be checked - the stator has a low side and high side and the transfer is supposed to be about 3K. Yours does sound ignition related but so did mine - since you had the VST apart, check the U shaped fuel line between the VST and pump - mine had an extra little fuel filter that must have been on the VST out side - it wasn't supposed to have one there. It would idle great just like yours , then get sucked up against the pump and wouldn't run over 2-3K - the dealer can't believe he found it there - it had been a long time of chasing.Doesn't sound like your issue but easy to check, yours just sounds like cylinders dropping and picking up.

Put on a stator, two switch boxes - all three off a 225 . New accel plug wires - 7 mm . It will fire up and idle for only a second or so. Dumped out the water separator several times and each time it was filling up so do not think it is a fuel press problem. Will act the same whether it is on the hose or in the river or on the boats tanks or a external tank. Did get it one time to idle for about five or six seconds and it ran like complete crap when it did. Does this sound like stator , switch boxes or something completely different. Also went from 5 petal stock reeds to c c m s four petal reeds and cages.

Check the fuel pressure - it used to idle as did mine - when they checked it as the RPM started up thats when it went goofy, but checked graet at idle. My problem was finding someone that would put it the water an check it, I knew it idles fine. I would look at the electric pump

Yours now sounds like its worse than before - changing too much stuff at once - isolate and eliminate - but you can only do one thing at time to do that

I chased a similar problem for a year. Changed most of the entire system and it was my ECU. Runs great now. See if someone has one you can borrow. Simple put and take. Good luck...
