Weird question I know.
OK, I was thinkin that if the heads were installed upside down, the water would have to go all the way thru the heads before exiting and would make the motor run cooler, instead of losing some of the water before it goes thru the head. I cant remember if the heads are symetrical. I havent pulled mine to check, so.... any one ever tried this?

If you were to pull the line up dowels out of the top and bottom of the head I guess so. Man , what a weird question !!!!!

How would you tell the water to flow differently? Turning the heads upside down will not change water flow alone. You would have to reroute the water inside the water jackets.

Superdave, water enters the block from the exhaust divider at the bottom cylinders, goes up to the top and into the top of the heads. Then before all of the water can be routed thru the heads, half of it is let out thru the t-stats or restrictors. If the head was turned upside down, the water would enter the head, go all the way down the head and half wouold exit the t-sta housing at the bottom and the aother half go to the poppet valve or poppet block off and out the exhaust adaptor.
Just seams to me like a better way to do it. :D

I was thinking about 2 piece heads. You want to put the thermostats on the bottom of the head, right? Wouldn't this cause the top cylinders to run hotter?

Block the water out from the t-stat housing and let it all flow through. Dumb as hell to pull water off the head before it does the complete job. And you got mail.:D

Just a thought , it looks like if the heads were upside down there would be not place for the air to vent. Vaporlocked heads and # 1and #2 fried ? Bob

What a weird ass question. Dude let that water and air get out the top.
The biggest problem I have with Mercurys is getting them to run hot enough, running cold is easy.
