View Full Version : How much would it cost to fix this Challanger?
Hey guys how much would it cost to fix this outboard on this Challanger? Or is it not worth fixing? If you were going to replace just the powerhead, What would be a good powerhead to put on? Or would it be easier and more cost efficient to find a never used complete outboard? If so what would be a good motor for this and what lengh shaft? Also what do you think about this boat?

It would be very difficult to answer both questions accurately and completely without seeing it in person. On the surface a 200 2.4 Merc needing one sleeve is a pretty simple and cheap fix. It may require much more than that however and only an in-person visit by a good and experienced Mercury tech will tell the true tale. If you have exprience with fast boats, your best bet would be to buy the package, fix and sell the 200 (it's worth between $2500-4000 when complete, if cosmetically nice and mechanically sound) and find a good used 3-liter Merc or OMC. With a 2.4 200, your top speeds will at best be in the mid to high 60s. For many, that's not fast enough. Though a 2.4 200 is a nice engine, it's not torquey enough nor has the top end most would be looking for.
The boat looks fantastic and the restoration job looks to be of high quality, but again, need to see it in person.
