Hello all!

I recently bought one of my family members 1985 Laser LTV with a 150 Merc Xr2. It is in great shape and was kept in a boat house for most of its life. Only used occasionally. I have a couple of questions of some of you guys that are gurus if that is okay. It is the ski version of the LTV that is untouched with a full interior and I would like to know the original setup of the ski pylon. I have (I believe) the original pylon. It doesn't have the braces that connect (I believe) to a ball and socket cleat. Does anyone have any detailed photos of this setup? Where does the main pylon mount? Original owner never set up the pylon so he doesn't know. Another question involves setup. It has a stock XR2 merc that is mounted on the second highest (motor high) mount hole. It has a quicksilver basic stainless prop at 23". The boat maxes out at around 6400 RPM with around 65mph. I think that there are a couple of MPH on the table still. The Laser accelerates like no other boat that I have ever been in. Please forgive my ignorance of speedboats because this is my first. I have had a couple of Ski Nautiques but that is totally a different world. I am aware of the blow over reputation and would like to do the pad modification at a later date.

Here are some pictures of it now....

Very nice loking LTV you have there. What`s the deal with all those stickers? Are they all nessary? Your boat looks as if it were maintained well through out the years. Score one for you.

The stickers are to be removed. As you can see it is every sticker since new.... On my project list! This boat has sentimental value to me. Road in it back in '85, scared me a lot back then!

Really cool to see another family passed down boat! My jet was bought new by my father and given to me as a "housewarming" gift last year, he bascially held onto it long enough for me to own a house with a garage to keep it in!

Nice looking boat. When I had my ski version I had a single pole not a tripod. I braced the underside of the deck in the back and made a bracket for the bottom that allowed me to pull the pole out when not needed.
It worked great without any issues. I did move my gas tank to the front in order to have access to the area in back. That also helped keep the bow down when skiing. It was a great outboard ski boat.

That's all I have, the pole. What did you use as a base? The bottom of my pole is threaded. Did you have to cut a hole in the deck or did you utilize the vent hole where the motor controls and gas line exit? How did you reinforce the deck underneath? Thanks for the info! This site is great!

I had to cut a hole for mine. I mounted marine plywood underneath using fiberglass and then cut my hole. The bottom bracket was bolted through the sub floor and then fiberglass was used to seal it from water. I made it slip into the bracket and then drilled a hole through the brackets and pole so I could pin it. That made it easy to take out. Looking back on it I probably didn't need to use the bolts but that should be where a good bit of the pull comes from. My deck was pretty thick back there so it was strong enough to walk on. I am not sure about the one you have.

My buddy had a VERY light Bass version with a hopped-up Mod VP on it (87 mph, tournament-ready, if I remember correctly). We fished together a lot in it back then. If you put a 260 or 280 on it, be VERY careful with the "Up" trim button!
