I took the newly rigged 25 Liberator out today with the wifey. We were coming home about 45 mph when we saw a cop boat trying to catch up to us. We got to the idle zone where he stayed on plane to catch up to us. By the end of the zone he was almost next to us. I don't know what his intentions were, but he was sure coming up on us fast. I didn't look over, but Renee said he was staring a hole through us. I got on plane before him and just kept it at 100mph for about 10 miles. She asked if that was a smart thing to do. I said "What? We are'nt doing anything wrong! We never saw him again! HeHeHe!

I was always told as long as u don't make eye contact you can play the dumb role and say u didn't know he was coming for u or after u

I obeyed all the idle zones and one 25 mph zone while he was behind me. I'm sure he thought I wasn't gonna do 25, but I did. Then, SEE_YA!!

That is great, played games with the Wardens in Banff Nat. Pk. at Lake Minnawanka years back. Were sitting about 12mi from the boat launch, wife and our friend had a sixpack to split. I spot them headed for us, tell them to drink up, had the boat so I didn't have to look at them. Just befofe they got to us took off then turned down towards the boat ramp when we got there told them they would have time to suck back a quick one, then back to the other end we go. Wife starts saying were going to run out of gas before him, told her to just get the trailer down the ramp quick when got back to the ramp. We were loaded, done with wipe down and putting on tie downs sitting in the parking lot, when he came running up the ramp. By then beer cans in trash can, driver had none, he didn't know what to do cuz I said I never seen them. Just don't look at them.

I had my dealer numbers on the boat. They stay on with suction cups, even at over 100!

My hero !!!

Our local lake is the city water supply and it the 1960's it was illegal to ski or swim, not sure what they thought the fishermen were doing in the boat all day, anyway -

We would launch my 15' Powercat w/ 100 Merc at one end, send the trailer to another launch, then pull a skier right by the patrol house. All they had was powered by 35 Johnson so we would run them to the far end, load the skier, and smoke (all 57mph) to the trailer and be gone.

You could play with the cops in those days. It was great fun for all.

I like it when you run by fwc or local sheriff and they whip it around with the lights on and you just lean into it with out liking back! Lol

Never had anything fast enough to outrun them.. The flats boat runs in near nothing tho.. "Surely he won't take that 26' Regal into Geiger Creek, OK, No way he makes it across that oyster bar?" Nope, he didn't, his zeal to check my fishin' license cost the taxpayers two fresh Alphas that day. They have gotten smarter since the 80's, (airboats) and sneeky too. Loved the story Wildman. When I boat, I do it to get away from the rigors of life only to have the water police checking me at every turn. Next time I am stopped I will smile thinking of someone throwin a roost of cattails and lilly pads making a new pig trail.

Growing up I had a 16ft Baja jet boat with a Merc 120 for a few years . Ran about 50.. nothing too fast, but with a 6 inch draft on plane the NJ State police had a very tough time following us through the shallows. Great times:cheers:

But, when on the water, they do have the right to stop any boat for inspection. You dont have to be breaking the law to be legally stopped and inspected. It all sounds like fun until the next time you and the officer cross paths....

Great ..but I guess what's the point ? What do you think that officer will do the next time he sees you ? Hell they could hold you all day if they want to. Just sayin' in my experiences with the law I never found taunting or challenging their authority to be an effective strategy for being ..well ..just left alone . Happy Boating

Having been "behind" the badge, I would have to agree.

I actually saw him coming into the last idle zone as I was getting ready to get on plane. He probably saw me up ahead. If he wanted me, he would have turned on his lights. On that section of river I would never try to outrun a cop. There's too many places he could have caught up to me, including the city docks where I launched.

I couldn't get away as fast as I used to, lucky for me CG said they only stopped me to check out the boat......asked to see the flares and they were on the way

When I lived on Lemon Bay, I saw a guy running 80-90 in a 25mph zone, he slowed to let the Sheriff boat catch up, flipped him off, then hit the throttle again leaving the Cop way behind. A week later I asked that cop if he caught that guy, he said he knew he couldn't keep up and didn't have to, but simply had a Deputy at every boat ramp in the area, like he said, gotta pull it out somewhere. Taunting them is never a good idea.
