Went to the keys, put in the water, started it up, idled for a few min running rough. Took off the cowling, found that we left 2 plug wires off from the night before when we checked them. No prob, plug them in and it ran great. Started the run, running great for 15 min. Stopped to wait for people, when we started up again it was a pig, didnt have any get up and go. Developed a miss and a backfire if you ran it over 3K, chugged along in idle. We turned around and limped back at 30mph. Water press and temp were fine. I got it home and today I pulled off the heads to see if there was any damage. everything looks good nothing to note there. Didnt do a compression test before I pulled them so I'm not sure if there all the same, they were before. All the plugs look ok, oily and a little carbon on them but ok. I did notice that the top 2 heads on both sides had what looked like carbon (pepper) on them and the bottom 1 one on both sides were cleaner than the others. Dont know if that is anything, ti just wiped off and there's no damage to the heads.

Ideas, Coil?, reed valve? How do you check a coil for output. I know how to check the reeds. It ran smooth at 3k but try to go more and it ran bad.

The only changes are a relieved exaust in the lower.
The fuel seemed fine, plenty of press and supply.

I'm an idiot..... I think I figured it out (I hope). Last time I opened the heads to look inside, I pinched the sheath thas goes over the coil wire between the head and block, I guess the hard running was enough to melt or at least break the coating on the coil wire and it was grounding out on the block. I hope this is what was wong. Its what I found when I just went out there, there were only a few broken wires, so I taped up the coil wire and the sheath. I'm going to get new head gaskets while its apart, there pretty corroded. I hope I fiind that this is the prob.

On another note, wish i could have met all of you, it sucks. But there is 1 pic as evidence that we were there. I think we left the club to early, but then again we were the 2nd boat there. I'll let you know how it runs after I get the heads back on.......
