That looks like a homebuilt project...as if someone modified the topdeck....

Thats not even close to a 89-90 Cougar. That strip down the side, the deck, the lights were built in each sponson, may be a very old one though.Look at th vin# rear stbd side.

If you can back out I think you should take a deep breath and give it a better look. All of that aluminum across the back and wrapping around the sides looks like a bandaid repair for something that may have been failing or already failed. Have you checked the transom inside for rot, or any other part of the boat for structural soundness? There is no reason to do something like that to a boat that is in good shape structurally. What are those trim tab looking things at the rear of the sponsons that appear to go up under the bottom? More bandaids either for hull problems or trying to fix ill handling? The left side of the deck looks like somebody cut a huge hole there to mount a gas tank and then covered it with some kind of flaps or wood, might even be OSB board. The first picture which is smaller looks like the right side of the deck was cut up the same way. Terrible place to mount tanks. Full tanks up front vs empty tanks will drastically alter the way the boat runs. Looks like a crude fiberglass repair and then painted black on the hull up above the tank hole and not much better coming on up the sides toward the cockpit area. What is under that black paint? What are all of those pipes on the rear that look like a roll bar? Ski rope mount or trusses to give the aluminum across the back something to tie into? Have your run any tests on the engine to see if it's got adequate and uniform compression? Unless this is a giveaway price, like whatever the motor is worth in its present condition I think you should pass and find something without all of the issues in the boat. You can think I am an ass now but wish you had listened later.

yes i have check the transom and crawl under there where the steering is and ya the tanks are built in the boat i quess, cause they are covered with fiberglasss the transom is strong like crazy somebody try to cut out the dek to take the tank out i guess cause the guy is not using them anymore.i bought it with no engine and i am confortable with fiberglass.i maybe wanted to open it up remouve the hole deck fix the tanks and do it over during winter.do you know where i can separate the top to the bottom mold for less work ? thanks for your advice but i look at the boat all around for like 2 hours

I'll bet the wife was not happy when you brought that thing home. :D

If the engine is in decent condition, sell it off and scrap the boat. Recoup your cash.
