Can anyone tell me the advantage of running the fuel injectors without screens. I have heard that most Mercury injectors start to lose flow past 8,200rpm with the screens installed. Mike at Kinsler told me to leave the screens in since it was my last line of defense from dirt getting in the injectors, but he is not aware of my application. What do you guys do? My motor will turn 8,500 with the screens. It is very strong up to 8,000 and then slowly makes it to 8,500 in about a mile.
Thanks, John Smith

John ,
We ALWAYS remove the screens and as the Kinsler guy told you they ARE the last line of protection and also the last point to stop up TOOO.
To remove the screens remove the injector from the rail then screw in a sheet rock ( dry wall ) screw about 1 1/2 turns and STOP. Then take a pair of plyers and grab hold of the end of the incerted screw and wiggle like you are pulling a tooth and the screen will come out.
CAUTION : make sure someone hasn't already removed the screens before you start the procedure as the injectors will be ruined .
You can , with a bright light, see the cone shaped screen BEFORE you start !
Good luck !

The reason you remove the screens is because they have a higher micron filtration than the inline filter on the boat. In time the injector will clogg up. It happens so slowly that you don't notice right away. Then you start to accuse other parts for the power loss problem. Remove the screens and put a quality inline filter in place. In theory, anything that gets past your inline will pass through your injector.
