Since you have started advertisements that come popping up in front of the screen
I will no longer be a member here
It is getting out of control

"One big advertisement" - come on now, that's not fair. I try to keep ads as non-invasive as possible, and I've turned down many ad opportunities because I deemed the campaigns too invasive. We only have one banner that opens up a bit, and that does not cover any forum content at all. Otherwise, we have no pop-up ads at all, and never have. If you're getting pop-up windows on your browser, it's not coming from this website.
I know you've been a long time Team Member, and I appreciate that tremendously. Team Membership helps the site a lot but by itself it would not even come close to covering our costs. As this site gets larger, it requires more and more resources, data lines, and the associated people that run it. Even with the advertisers, I'm paying for a lot out of my own pocket.
Please also remember that most of the advertisers, in addition to supporting the site directly, give awesome deals to the members. I wish I could have a perfect forum where everything would be to everybody's liking, but the fact is I can't - though I try as hard as possible.
Your membership here and satisfaction with the site are more important to me than the Team Membership, and I hope you'll reconsider your feelings.

It sounds like some spyware or adware picked up from somewhere.
I keep our PC's clean by
1. never use Internet explorer. Only Use Google Chrome or Firefox
2. Run a virus program , either Kerpensky (preferred) or Symantec
3. Run Spysweeper from Webroot.
4. do full sweeps once a week and make sure the programs are always running.
Minimal cost and you will not have problems.

Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab/Reset internet explorer settings
This should clean and erase all add ons and reset all default settings. If this doesn't work you will need to re-install internet explorer or just upgrade it to the new version in windows update.
If you need more help PM me and I will remote you over a port(80) encapuslation and make the repair from my computer

It sounds like John has you covered with Internet explorer.
I have not used internet explorer for years. Thats the browser that is targetted by most of this malware/spyware/virus/painintheneckware.
Try Google Chrome. or Firefox.

Ditto ... on very rare occasions I get a little floating pop up. I've been ignoring it too, but its not your imagination. I've been wondering if its on a time delay from some other site I visit, like the local news or something. I will note what it is next time I see it, but its been less than once a week, maybe once a month. I was guessing it was some script that an advertiser was sneaking on Greg ...

Download and try Firefox. You can keep IE and always go back to it. The layout s now very very similar to IE ut faster. For security, ditch the Nortons, McAffee, AVG etc and download Microsoft Security Essentials. Its free from Microsoft and you run faster and smoother with better protection.

I switched to Google Chrome about a year ago and haven't looked back. Didn't have a choice because Internet Explorer kept locking up my computer. Internet Explorer is a bad product, especially when you team it up with Vista. I don't get too many popups. Also running Webroot here.

I just have begun to use Google Chrome... it is a bit faster to load, but I still get the popup. Scream and Fly is by far the slowest to load site I visit.
I just ran a virus scan and am fixing to use Defender to see what it can get.
How do I get my favorites from IE to GC?

Never had a pop up on S&F or any thing running across my screen while browsing. It accually took a bit of getting used to but S&F is now getting back like it was before for navigation for me. Im slow to change. I had alot of trouble and got frustrated. All good now. When I can afford it Ill have to update my VIP again.

I'll just say it again - this site does not use pop-up ads. Never has, never will. Any pop-up ads you may be getting are not originating from this website.
Most of the situations described here sound like virus/malware infections. This site actually loads very quickly on my computer, though it may not be the fastest site out there, especially during peak hours. We are looking into some major hardware upgrades though, and that will increase speed considerably.

Thats not a popup/adware thats just a warning from vbulliten? you entered text in the editor as a reply, but instead of posting that reply you are using the back navigation and will lose your reply. Thats an acceptable behavior.
I still don't like it! ;)

I had nothing else open and no other website ... your guys have script running on you Greg!
It has to be script that runs in or with the Flash in the ad rotator ... that is what I suspected all along. Whenever I got a popup it was always related to the ad that was in the rotation at the time. Its not html, its Flash ... and it has imbedded links to other ads.
You need to complain to the ad agency or dump them.

I have been getting that same slide out ad a bunch of times over the last few months and it is the flash embedded in the ad and has nothing to do with a virus or spyware or anything. Its the same ad every time it slides out. I have had the John Deer one take over part of the screen as well once before but have not seen that ad since.
I would do as Mark suggested, complain or dump the ad agency if they are going to do that.
