Curious what temperatures your 225 Promax's are operating at. Mine runs in the 145-160 degree range with about 88 degree water temp and 90 degree air temp. Curious if that Normal or High. Thanks, Kurt.

I'm in 75 to 80 degree water and idling is 135-140 and running is 105. That is water temp and on a 225X if that helps you out.

Mine runs about 130 under similar conditions. I would not worry as the Guardian system will alert you if there is a problem.

145-160 is normal for that engine. Anything over 160 and then I would start to be concerned. Promax's have 143 deg thermostats in the heads so it will run a little warmer than that especially with the water temp being so hot. At idle or cruising below 5000rpm my 98 promax would hover between 145-150deg. Above 5000 it would get around 160.

Laglass69 One of the things I tried was to change the thermostat's to 122 to try to bring it down, but it didn't change temp's.

Thank you. Drive the thing and quit worrying about it. It's not a big deal iffn it blows up. It's only money.

Cooler thermostats will just open sooner but temps will run the same. Down here in south louisiana my 99 promax would run 170is in the summer and 145ish in the winter. Water temps get into low 90s with air temps 100. You're good.

One of my buddies at the local marina said they quit putting temp gauges in new boats because they spend all their time chasing ghosts(temp issues), now all they really care about is sufficent water pressure.

That is how my 225x runs too.

I'd suggest using an accurate heat gun at the point where your stock senders are located to confirm an accurate gauge too...
Might help ease your worries...I find most boat mounted temps gauges ( no matter whose they are ) aren't real accurate.

Thanks Jay, did your thermostat mod's, did increase flow at idle and temp took a little longer to increase. Pulling the powerhead this week and i'm going to enlarge the 4 drain holes in the exhaust plate as you suggested. Going to inspect everything one last time and then as ROCK said quit worrying and drive it. Thanks again for the ideas and advice when I talked to you earlier in the week. Rock and Jay are Good Dudes, Thanks,Kurt

I have a lazer Thermo trazer and found the temp guage on mine was a little warmer than the block were it attaches. Its a good thing to have. i find when my motor gets hotter in high temps of water and air a good run down the lake cools things off pretty good. As your cruising say in the 50-70mph range adjust trim till you see the temps go down. I wont run mine over 140 very long. ill stop or take a boot to cool things off. Hits hard when the air and water is so warm. But running more water at higher speeds does help. As long as you have good water pressure you should be good.
I have a temp gun you could try but I have seen you shoot a regular gun and am not sure you would hit anything. Give me a call when you want to pull the powerhead.

Rock Looking at Thursday morning, it's my day off. Also, I ordered replacement poppet parts if we need them. Kurt
