QL is a suppressor plug which is recommended if you run a vro for less interference with the alarms.

Not only just for RFI problems, the suppressor sparkplug (it's not a resistor plug) with the Q in the prefix is needed for the correct operation for most larger OMC CDI motors. A suppressor as opposed to a resistor, consists of a small coil of wire inside the plug that looks like a ballpoint pen spring and it helps block the AC component of the ignition system without degrading the DC spark across the gap. Without the suppressor, often a slight miss occurs as the spark duration is shorter than with the Q series. With a 5000 ohm resistor plug, the spark energy is diminished somewhat. Electrical engineers can talk about the effects of suppressors and electrical energy all day long, but this is just a basic explanation of what occurs in the OMC ignition systems that are designed for the Q type plugs.
