I have a merc 150 that I have been currently messing around with and want to find a boat to mount it on.
Problem is that most boats I find are bigger than what I wnat right now, others are not not rated fo rthe Hp.

Posting over here to see if I could get some ideas....or should I keep looking.
I want something that I can take out and and have fun with, but kind would like it to be able to be used as a cruising boat that can seat up to at least?

I found a Glasspar 15' Vhul only rated for 75....I want to go look at this boat, but interested in input for the motor sizing?

any ideas or input please

find an 18 action marine...it would be fairly fast with a 150 on it and would seat at least 4

not sure what that is? but will have to look up....I did run across an '77 Ski boat , its rated for 95hp its a 16' boat with and overall of 17' I beleive, thats going by the info I found on iBoats.com.....i really like the lines of the 70 era boats....
Been itching for a project boat...not sure if i'm crazy...but once I get a bug its hard to shake...;)

Good luck on your quest.

FYI- over sized motors on smaller hulls can come back to bite ya regarding insurance/liabilities and local water patrol inspections if any.... of course none of us run over the rated HP around here anyways........

Look over on checkmate-boats.com, they made some 16 footers that were rated for that kind of power. They even had some models where the made an open bow version as well.

Ontario Streaming has a rebuilt Vking that would fly with that motor

...this.

btw, this is an action. fast, seats 4, better in the chop than most lake boats like we run and pretty forgiving.

Which "Merc 150"??? That is such a generic term that is thrown around way too much. You have a 2L 150, a 2.4 150 and a 2.5 150... Then there is a ProMax version too, right?

A 17' boat would be a good start. I have a 17' Checkmate Diplomat bow rider, but it is rated for a 140. You have to be careful of when insuring when you mess around with horsepower and ratings. Over power one and make a claim and you’re done.

I'm talking 70's era tower of power I6 150hp...old school..SO I've been hunting for this area of boat to match up. I picked up the motor a few years back non running, with a little work I got it giong..so instead of running it on a stand, I have been searching for a boat that I can mount it on. I have been taking everyones thoughts into this idea.
