Can anyone tell me when OMC went to the higher speed trim units on the 225s? My 1991 has the slow tilt and trim and I know that the mid 90 venom motors have a higher speed trim. Are all the motors from a particular year fitted with the high speed unit or is it just certain motors?

Thanks in advance
Craig

Pretty much anything 70hp and up use the fast track or quick trim units. I am not real sure but i do belive that they did come out in 1991. Also they will not fit the old style brack. You have to change that as well

the Fast-Trak trim system came out in 1991. Are you sure your motor is a '91? What is the model number?

The motor is much shorter and the oil resivor is small with a big plastic cap at the bottom mine is from a 91 225 no bolts hold it on just big stainless pins with snap rings.

Trim unit changed in '92, powerhead changed to the closed deck fingerport the following year,'93.

Thanks for all the replies. Been away from the computer for a bit. So I can be reasonably sure that a 1993 bottom end will have the faster trim unit.

Cheers Craig

Yes, a '93 midsection will be what you want. Continue to use your '91 lower unit on your '91 powerhead as driveshafts will be different. Should have also mentioned that when they changed to the finger ported closed deck in '93, the crank made a small change at the splines and therefore changed the driveshaft length. Confused yet?

The Magnum gearcase was introduced with the '93 motors and its different size diameter mandated a shift rod and a driveshaft length change.

I need to correct myself. The cranks and driveshafts changed in 92 with the trim unit change. Closed deck finger ports still started in 93.

Wow, I must have been thinking of something else for some reason. My previous post is incorrect as the magnum gearcase did not come out until the 2002 models by Bombardier were introduced.

ok so the 93 trim unit will be the faster trim. Can anyone tell me what changed as I note that the trim motor has the same part number for both the 91 and the 93 or 97 so my guess is that if the motor is the same then there needs to be something different in the ram size or the oil flow to make it work quicker

Because the Fastrak style trim came out with the '91 models, then the '93 would be the same thing.

Then why is it that I have seen faster trim units on the 225 Venom motors from around the mid 90s. Or is the fast trim only fitted to some and not all of the 225s. If so Which year and modle do I need to look for?

Just found out the the 07 and newer have a different trim motor. This might explain the different trim speed. My old 91 unit might well be the fast track that people have mentioned but it is still a heap slower than my friends 98 Venom 225. The tilt on mine is fine it is just slow to trim with the motor down in the running position. If I wasn't confused before I am fast getting that way now. I'll go and have a look at his in the weekend to see what is different.
