So 2 weeks ago I went to Castaic Lake to test out my 1987, 225 Evinrude on my 19' commander ski boat. It was not what I had hoped going from a 1973 135 to a looper 225. I hit about 45mph and after a foil hit 47. Disappointing. Also it would stay stuck in forward and did not go into reverse.

Well to night I found the lever arm under the carbs was not tight giving the shift linkage 2 inches of free play. Tightened it and now it shifts perfectly... simple money free problem. Then I opened the carb cover and found the throttles were only opening half way at WOT. A quick adjustment later and Im hoping to gain around 20 mph... simple money free problem.

I'm going to Isabella for the 4th, its the furthest norther CA lake in which they allow no E-tech 2strokes on. Apparently the water is like glass in the morning but hellishly wind my 3pm. Still I can't wait.

thats harsh, couldn't they just say "slower traffic keep left" and still let the etec's on the lake? :D

What a bunch of morons, so I guess they allow 4stroks, if they knew how much oil gets in the water after a oil change EPA would not allow 4stroks on any body of water. When you drain the oil it runs down the motor gets behind the shroud, and between the lower and mid, then when you remove the oil filter it runs all over the lower pan,now you can wipe it up but you cant get it all. Where it end up ,yep in the water. And that is raw oil not burnt oil. I just cant wait for these motors to get old and start leaking at the lower seal,as all 4strokes do, an oil runs in the water. Just cant wait!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, got to agree with you. And of course the fix on the tired 4 stroke will be so much more expensive than a relatively simple repair on a two stroke that people will be loath to spend the money till their oil leak is real bad. Even more oil in the lake.
