Launched the 20 foot boat in water, ride, and the slip. Back, trailer
side yard, moved the Flatbottom little dragboat under the canopy in
front, where the 20 sat. I'm an incline downhill, and shoving back to
park the Flatty, tried to jack up off the "ball", and needed a move
forward. I NEVER leave the tow ride in NEUTRAL! 55 years, a new move
me. Popped off the ball, jacking, and there goes the van! Across the
street, into the drainage ditch! Very minor damage done van, plastic
crap in front, bent plate. No big deal..(but hard to stop slapping
myself, STUPID!"):reddevil::rolleyes::eek::D

Oh yeah, the funny part!
Whats so funny, is the back doors were open, the dog in the back, looking at me, drivers door open, van takes off, she's looking at like.."AINT YOU SUPPOSED BE FRONT SEAT DRIVING?".. No need to beat me up with a "stupid gas hose whipping"...have a headache now, "wall banging" it me!)

Could have been worse, at least there wasn't a swimming pool across the street:D
Next time, listen to the dog:D

Along those lines.....As a teenager in the late 80's I was working at Bert Jabins Yacht Yard in Annapolis Md. Went to move a boat on a trailer over to one of the shops for service. Like typical teenagers I did a lot of stuff half assed. Didn't use use any safety chains, probably just dropped the hitch on the ball and went. As I rounded a corner in the yard the boat and trailer went straight!! The loose rig was headed staight towards a sailboat up on jackstands. I slam on the brakes and jump out of truck neglecting to put it in park. As I start to run towards the boat (why I don't know) I notice the truck driving off! Oh F__K! I decide my odds are better with the truck so I chase it down and manage to get it stopped. Wheww!! Then I watch as the loose boat rolls toward the sailboat. Luckily the gravel in the yard was deep enough stop the runaway boat with about 3' to spare. No damage done (except to my pride) Ahhh the good old days!!! :eek: :D :thumbsup: Pete

LMAO:thumbsup::thumbsup:
i bet most of us have done something close to that, even if it is jumping back in and putting it in park. I have. glad no one and no pups were hurt. :)

Have to admit I was lucky no one coming down the street..(little traffic, but all it takes is one), and the ditch deep enough to stop the ride before the neighbors fence and garage! Chit happens, and guess it was my turn for stupid..(and a wake up call .. PAY ATTENTION!!) Think I will start using the parking brake a little more now too!
Last year, friend picked up his 23 foot Chriscraft after a fix, freeway home, came down my street. I'm in back, hear a crash, come out front and guess either the tongue latch never was put down, or what, but the trailer came off the ball going over a speed bump, he was braking, and the tongue punched through the rear doors a good foot on his new Tahoe! Safety chain stopped further movement. Better here at 20mph, than freeway at 60!

Without A Doubt :iagree: :cheers:
Good thing nobody got hurt, dog included.
It makes it easier to learn from and a hell of a lot cheaper. ;)

I didn't set the park brake on my dually. Popped it in to N and fired it up to run the AC for a few minutes before I left. I was walking back to the house and the truck (cummins) started to get quieter... I was like WTF and turned around to see it rolling down the drive! I took off in a sprint and was trying to make up my mind if damage from a barb wire fence was worth taking a risk for potentially getting run over. I caught it with just a couple feet to spare.
**** happens, and like you, I was lucky no one was coming!!!

I let a friend back my truck and boat down the ramp one time while i held the rope, and when the boat cleared the trailer i signaled him to pull up. Well dumba$$ forgot to put it in forward and nailed the gas. When he realized what was going on, even with all my yelling and cussing to stop, he still managed to get a little water in the back of the cab. It was funny after but boy was I pissed...lol

HA! Get yur own, I aint gonna be responsible for two of us screwing up!
All the weekend warriors are out here now..(we have a major all day 4th party here at the park/marina). Tides are to far out to use the boat launch until later in the day, so plenty time for the idiots to get wasted. So I will spend more time sitting in the boat watching the action at the launch with others, smart enough to get a slip!

Damn, speaking the 4th. About 10 years ago, 1am, my 20 footer in the slip, after 4 hours of us setting off fireworks and pounding down beers all day, I go out to the boat to put the cockpit cover on..(damn seagulls), and somehow (WASTED?) leaning over the back, slipped and fell, well, really WEDGED my ass between the motor and the side the wetwell! So here I am, legs dangling in the air, could not get a grip on the motor, head just above the water, all I could push on was the cavitation plate on the motor with one hand. So I come to the conclusion either die like this, as seems the place cleared out fast, NO one around (why is no one ever around when I do dumb ****?), or simple "go for a swim" Flipped my butt over and out wet, swim platform up and in, soaking wet, said hell with it, went back to my rat scooter marina runner, and home.

I picked up a sailboat about 18 years ago and was towing it and went over a bump and the hitch came off and all I could see was the boat pop up sky high. I slammed on the brakes and my car got butt surfed hard, thank god for the chains. Issue was I had a 1 7/8 ball on a 2" hitch. Lesson learned

HA! That about the same incline, same length to the ditch, and bet if I a DIDN'T chock the boat, it probably would have run over me too!:eek::D
That second truck? Looks like a bigger ditch needed (lucky missed the first truck, hard to see about the door though!), as it was still heading down the hill end of the vid!:eek:

Been there done that. We were on a job site and at the time I had a brand knew Dodge 1 ton diesel stick. I had moved it about 100' away from the loading rack on the plant we were working on when me and one of the guys bent over working notice something moving. It was rolling straight towards the rack! Our first instincts were to try to stop it but, the smartside of me said let it go. What an aweful sound that was caruuuunch. Apparently some asshat that was in a hurry forgot to set the e-brake or, leave it in gear.
