Long story in a condensed version. I was fighting a fuel curve issue for 2 years with an EFI setup on a 2.0l block. I finally gave up trying and found a front half and carbs for my motor. I rebuilt the carbs and removed the EFI setup and put the carb setup on it. Link and sync, set the timing and go to fire it up. Nothing! No click or anything. {Push the trim button on the throttle lever and nothing. Try the trim on the motor and it works. Start tracing things and found the battery wire and starter motor wire were put on the wrong sides of solenoid. Switch wires and everything is great. Motor fires up and idles great. Rev it up on the hose and sounds great. Wait for a calm day to try out on Lake Ontario. I live about 500ft from a free launch. Launch the boat and fire up the motor. Idle out to deeper water and hit the throttle. The motor dbogs down at 1000rpm and sounds like it is flooding badly. Load it back on the trailer and bring back to the driveway. Neighbor comes over and we start talking. I explain it sounds like it is flooding badly. He says either power pack. I know they are good. He asks if I am sure it is not leaning out. I don't believe it is. It sounds more like flooding to me I say. We both look over the motor for 5-10 minutes when he notices the air breather is on upside down blocking the venturis on the carbs. OF COURSE IT IS FLOODING! THE CARBS ARE NOT GETTING ANY AIR. Now I will have to wait till the weekend to try again but I am pretty confident it will run now.
Had the boat out today and it runs alot better now that I turned it the correct way.
