New guy here, needing help.
Q#1, My 89 150 magnets introduced themselves to the stator. :(
So, now the chicken or the egg question. Did/will the magnets come loose and hit the stator or is the upper crank brg shot and allowing the flywheel to wobble causing the carnage? Anyway to check the upper crank brg without teardown? Hate to buy a flywheel and stator just to have it happen again.

Q#2, Always wanted more power, will a 2.4l 200 pwr head and tuner etc... drop onto my 2.0 mid/lower ?

I have owned this motor sine 1990 and has been problem free, it will spin a Laser II 23p to 5700-5800rpm pushing my 1989 Ranger 365 just fine but with a weak holeshot.
All opinions/advice appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Troy

Q#1 More than likely the bearings gave way causing the damage to the the flywheel/stator. You can pull it with it still together to inspect.

Q#2 Yes, a 2.4 200 or 2.5 200 will bolt to your mid. No problem. You should have the bucket cowl and not have to worry about clamshell brackets.

Good luck on your project!

Thanks for the reply James.
I pulled the end cap and the brgs looked great, wish I could say the same for the end cap after I got through with it. :o
Anyway, your answer to Q#2 was what I wanted to hear. Been wanting a pwr upgrade for a LONG time, now I have an excuse.
Looks like I will be lookin for a 2.4 or 2.5 pwr head as soon as I can sell some hi-po big block Mopar or 2.0l 150 parts :D.
Thanks again,
Troy .

Good deal. What you have can be made into a pretty stout beast. I have several running around that are pretty impressive. Sometimes it does pay just to step up to a bigger engine. Good luck.

Just a followup.
First I need to give a shoutout for member fyremanbil, he is a MAJOR GOOD GUY!
His generosity and patience is what the world needs more of.

Got a replacement flywheel, stator and upper cap/brg assy.
Once I got it together I chased a mis/switch box problem for a few days.
Put new switch boxes in this evening and set the timing.
Sounds like a whole new motor.
Going to go out tomorrow to do a little on-the-water tune, can't wait.
