Need to know about the engine mods if any. If the intake is cross drilled, the mains need to be quite a bit larger.

There should be a WH-- on the carbs somewhere. Have you run it like this or are you just putting it together now?

Vent jets are frequently left out on #2 and 5.
You need to look very closely for those WH numbers, it will give you a jet size baseline. The stampings are sometimes very light.

Oh, and I don't think you've found the mains yet.

The Columbia Coastal barge operations will manage the loading and blocking of any equipment it transports. The equipment shipper can rely on the expertise of Columbia Coastal to safely transport heavy equipment for long distances. Transporting construction equipment over the interstate highway system poses more safety risks and equipment damage than transporting by barge. A construction firm's insurance carrier should reduce the liability factor for shipping equipment on the marine highway.
Well, that certainly solves the problem of jets:thumbsup:

Transom, you are right.Removed carbs and found more jets behind bottom brass plug.
The #'s on jets are all over the board.Have 2 carbs with .062 jets,2 with .048,2 with .080
Why would they be like that?

Only mod i know is exhaust was gutted and mid has been drilled with reliefs just above cavitation plate. Sounds like my mods, my carbs are WH-39 and I run 82's. But I like running a little rich. It would probably run a little better with 80's. I will have to try it some day.

Why would they be like that? Did you find the numbers after the WH? I had to use a magnifying glass to see mine.

Why would they be like that? It could be someone drilled those to match the 80's. I would check them to see if they are the same size as the 80's. Maybe they needed 80's that were not available to them at that moment, and decided to drill out those other one's.

I'll bet the carbs are not a matching set. WH carbs came with mains anywhere from .048 to .082, but not within the same set. They should vary no more than .004 from one carb to another. Problem is, with the Merc carb "mystery", you may not get good results by changing to matching jets.
No one knows why there is so much jet size variance, not even T-Rex, and he's cut them all apart to try and find out.
I'd be more comfortable if you picked up a set of matching carbs. These engines HATE lean, and if you guess wrong, you may be in for some melted aluminum.
