Hi guys, I have an 05 150hp XR6 and want more out of it. I need more top end. Even 100-200 rpms would be great and allow me to turn the prop that I want to. Currently I can only spin it to 5200, which is 400 below the 5600 WOT rating. I know I can spin an XR6 more than that, but I would be happy with 5600 or so.

I have CCRD reeds in it. Rest is stock.
I know I cannot remove the retard module (advance module) from this motor.

Will cutting the tuner and rejetting accordingly give me more top end?
Any suggestions on getting a little more out of this motor? It has the 1.3 or whatever they are carbs already, so I assume I just need to rejet and do not need the 200 carbs..is this right?

Thanks for any help.:smiletest:

Lightened Fly wheel will give you 1 to 200 more Rpm's you can buy Louver's for you cowling to let it breath Vilosity stacks for you carbs there are all kinds of easy things to get that will help with what you are trying to do , best of luck and if you find what helps you please post the results

I dont know of a lite wheel for a 40 amp charging system they are for the 16 amp systems. You have what is called a CDM motor so your locked in to what rpms it lets you spin you also have Oring heads so your screwed on cheap head cutting to up the compression but its still an option. More rpms may be available by changing props the fury has a lot of blade on them try a 23 something else. you can also change the electrics to Switch box system it will let you go up to 6200 on a 40 amp an no telling on a 16 amp( its only money) or buy a 200 and start going faster right away or do like i did 30 years ago spend a ton of money and time to end up there any way

Eric Simon the 3.0 liter guru does lots of things with EFI and Ecus i was not aware that he did machine work on flywheels but he may i just dont keep up with it any more ,the cast 14 lb flywheel (Especially the one for CDM's with the stainless band inside that covers the magnets) is at best just what its built for fishing motors the other option is the Xr4 40 amp flex plate flywheel from the early water cooled regulator phase from Merc in the early 90's i have 3 or 4 or these and i have noticed very little in performance enhancement from a 2 lb lighter flywheel do a search on the items you mentioned and see what they produce from years gone by experience porting ,electrics, heads, reeds and cages not just 1/2 of it and set up are top boosters in performance. IMHO and .02 worth

I have a similar motor i am going to swap over to switch boxes, which models have a sixteen amp system that is compatible? I have a 1994 2.5 200 that i was going to use as a donor, i assumed it would be a 40 amp system??

yes its 40 amp all Promax motors are also 40 amp and efi so the ecus are programed with a 6750 rev limit so to speak on the earlier models and the later ones at 6500 .the 16 amp system is on all mercs just a guess saying 1989 down i put some on a 200 pmax i just built with a lite wheel and some aggressive exhaust porting by Jim Ruck and some 245 carbs so far only started on the stand sounds great:eek::eek::D

There is a member here Mach 351 who has his XR6 /stv running over a 100 he would be a good source of input since he has most likely been there done that
