I have finally got my hands on a sportmaster gear case. I need to know if the internals from my stock 225 optimax gear case will work in the sporty. Has anyone done this before? I know the oil drain plug for the sporty is in the rear carrier, but that is not a big concern as long as I know it is full of oil. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I just did the swap but my new Sporty already had internals. You will need longer studs on the mid section - I got mine from BAM. Go to BAM's website and compare internal part #'s for the Sporty LU with your Torquemaster - I would bet they are the same. Make sure a qualified person does the work with the internals but mounting the LU to the mid is childs play.

Now to find someone with enough smarts to make the swap. Any volunteers?

BAM is: mercruiserparts.com
You must use a 3L case against a 3L case - if you have a 2.5L case it will not work. The Sporty in a 3L case is a beefed up 19 spline shaft for the prop and if your Torquemaster has the same 19 spline shaft like mine did you are now comparing apples to apples.
The gear ratios should not be a problem as Sportmasters can come in 1-87 or 1-62. Torquemasters are typically 1-87.

if you have a small shaft case it will not fit. since the sporty case use a bigger bearings and you have to change to the big shaft , bearing carier, bearing carrier adapter if its a counter unit, gears since they are bigger, and the clutch all are from different world. unless u got a fat shaft tourqe master unit. and u might spend around 1500 just for those parts alone if you decide to buy them new.
