Can anyone tell me if a merc 2.4 crank will work in place of a damaged 2.5 crank??? also are the controls the same from a carb engine to an efi????Im looking at a 2.5 efi and my 2.4 was a carb engine.Any help would be great!
Thanks

Almost all the fishin motor cranks interchange just some of the bearing sizes are different. Controls are the same for all the older big Mercs.

The 2.5 block has larger center mainways than the 2.4.The bearings that fit the 2.5 block are open race needle design and must run on a crank with a thrust surface, and no captive style 2.5 size beatings are available,so the crank used must have thrust style center mains, not rounded. Most 2.4 cranks that have thrust style centers will have 1.5 dia top mains, not the 1,375 like you have, but you can modify the 2.4 top main cap to fit your stator and use the 2.4 bearing. The center main style is the determining factor,Chris
