I have been told a bad stator will cause that. Just a thought.

Are the reeds ok?

First off welcome to my world, did you keep the stock pump too? If not I'm not sure if the 35gph that thing pumps is enough at those speeds. Have someone pump the primer ball while you run and see if that helps....

I see, not sure then. When I had the same issue with my omc, everybody said check for restrictions. I found that it was just running out of fuel do to a internal problem with the pump. I put a holly style pump in and took the stock one out. It seems to work fine now, but I havent had it out alot since then. Take the pump apart and see if everything is ok inside.

I was thinking the reeds to ? Could it act like that ? I thought It would have a bad idle?

Do you have an anti siphon valve on you fuel pickup? If so remove it.

Reeds will do funny things. If they are leaking, you will lose intake charge. Missing at idle is a sure sign, but not always the only sign. It really does seem fuel related though. Keep it from surging as much as possible when testing, don't drive it into the surge for long, if it's lean, parts will melt!

maybe air in the system put in a piece of clear line and watch for bubbles , will do what your describing.

Bad reeds affect more on idle than top end IMO. I can't see how reeds could produce a surge. Sounds like you may have a cylinder coming in and out (ignition)…?

You need to rig a temporary pressure gauge at the carbs--- piped up front so you can verify pressure at speed.
