I have a 79 tower that was recently has new rings and pistons over the winter. We made the first shake down run last weekend and ran great to the other side of the lake of course and like a switch going on lost all top end power. It idles fine just no top power.I saw the volt meter was reading 16 plus volts.I Ohm tested the stator and rectifyer both bad and were replaced. Now it starts great and was a hard starter before but no power on the lake.Revs great on the hose but anything past idle nothing while in gear. The carbs were also cleaned over the winter when apart but Im certain its electrical.Fuel pump was also rebuilt at the same time.Any help would be great Thanks

Did you replace all the fuel hoses and especially the one down the side when mine did that I had a cracked fuel pump diapram. Rick

Is that thing ADI ignition? If so you might want to check the switch boxes.

Also, take a good look at the fuel system. If you push the key in while the motor is acting up does it make any difference?

Yes it is the non distributor ignition. The fuel lines look new and fresh. Not dry or rotting.Im gonna try a fuel pressure guage and see if it got good pressure and the switch boxes were my next try especially as the stator just went.Maybe connected?

Do you have spark on all six? Rick

Yeah, look for spark on all 6 ... but if it starts and idles in gear ... the problem is probably on the fuel side

Ok so now Ive done comp test and 145-150 on all 6 I did spark test on all 6 and found the top 2 cylinders have no spark or intermittent.I got no spark from #1 and no spark the first couple times tested on #2 but did get spark from it later.Still non from 1. Ohm test the coil and it shows second test is no continutity from tower to posative and it has cont. Im assuming it is the coil.
