Usualy you can run higher with 4 blades (Trophy) and a bit surfacing (,my setup) at full trim..

there must be something to it when all the big dogs are running 5 and 6 blades even

Generaly the more blades the harder to turn on top end the big dogs have 1000's of HP at there disposal. IMO

You will have less slip generaly with a 4 blade over a 3 blade. If you run really high a 4 blade should be faster. Half in half out youll get better thrust with 4 blades vs 3. If you run deeper than the hub a 3 blade will be faster.

There are execptions always. The rake of the prop comes into play more as the prop is surfaced. Generaly the higher out of the water the more rake you want for bite. Surfaced props in the 20 deg and up range are what the fastest guys run well into the 100,s on surfaced aplications. Cleavers are always a good bet. The drag4 has lots of rake and has been a good performer for Randys liberators well into the 100,s as an example. Ill bet a 3 blade would scrub some speed in the setups he runs on the libs with 300XS motors. On a really light hull you might be best with a surfaced 3 blade with a 2.4 or 2.5. With the torque of the new motors I would go 4 for sure.

I'm trying to figure out the best heigh with my xb03. I run my 28P Re3 at 1/4 below the pad. I picked up a 28P Re 4 and it didn't seem to want to run there. I played around with height a little but never got it right. I'm thinking it might be a little to much for my 225PM but want to run it again before I sell. I hope to run it next weekend, I'll post back what I come up with...

I'm running a Mazco RE4 1/2 inch above the pad with 4 inch jackplate!

i dont know if this will help but i have always run a 3 blade et. picked up a 4 blade et. 4 blade had a lot more stern lift than the 3 blade which in my boat is pretty much neutral or slight bow lift. I did not run the 4 blade long before i loaned it out and have not gotten it back.

I just put a drag 4 28 on my Skater.
On this hull, the prop is awesome. Jumps out of the hole and pulls like a freight train.
I can raise this thing till thye engine looses water pressure and still wants to go.
Think I'm gonna try a hull mounted pickup and see how much more it will take.
I love my Drag 4
