Are Sportmasters with the torque tab OK right out the box for a Allison or would you greatly benifit from having someone adj. on it for a Allison? If so , who is a good person to do it.

Not knowing the details of your particular setup or your performance goals, my generic reply is that a stock sportmaster (w/ torque tab) will perform just fine on an allison. I've ran a stock sportmaster on a couple different allisons, and had no issues.
Can improvements be made? Certainly. However, for normal recreational use, your gains will probably be minimal.

A stock sportmaster will run just fine. I have run cut and welded tabs on the skeg and a case now that is sanded. Past cases that have been welded end up cracking because of the heat. The sportmaster I have now that is sanded a little on the nose runs and handles great. As far as speed gains go... I worked case may get you 1-2 mph more at most but that is it. These cases have been run on XB2003 allisons with a 225X and 280 offshore.
If I ever have to put another case on I will not have one welded. I will sand it on the nose and the opposite side of the skeg to blend it in.
Good luck!
