Motor is a 97 225 3L, Serial is 0G37xxxx. I can get the rest of it if need be. I need the procedure to adjust all the throttle linkage from where my cable hits to the throttle plate. Also need the adjustment for the TPS too. Got a lean sneeze a bit when it's cold and just want to be sure that everything is OK before I go beating on this motor.

Thanks
Nick

Mercury 3 Liter EFI
TPS Adjustment using digital voltmeter.

1) Disconnect TPS from ignition harness.

2) Connect digital voltmeter using test lead assembly 84-825207A1 between TPS connector and EFI harness.

3) Connect RED voltmeter lead to Red lead of harness assembly. Connect BLACK voltmeter lead to White lead of harness assembly. Set voltmeter to 20 VDC.

4) Turn ignition key to "ON" position.

5) With throttle shaft in closed position, voltmeter should read 0.95 +/- 0.05 volts.

6) Slowly move throttle lever to Wide Open Throttle position and back to Idle while monitoring voltage readings. Readings should increase and decrease smoothly.

7) At Wide Open Throttle position, maximum voltage should be 3.80 +/- 0.25 volts.

8) Remove test harness and reconnect TPS harness to EFI harness.

Tony, thanks. I think my linkage needs adjusted before I tackle the TPS. I think where the roller meets the cam distance is too much. Any way to do the TPS measurement w/o the harness? Can I just use spoons on my digital volt meter?

Anyone? Am I way off base here?

The roller should only be .005" clearance from the cam AFTER everything else is adjusted properly.
The linkage and synchronization procedures coveral several pages in the service manual. It explains it very clearly and has illustrations too.

You really need to use a Mercury DDT or the test lead assembly; 84-825207A1 to set your TPS correctly.
You will also see in the service manual that there is a different TPS value when using the Mercury DDT.

Good luck.

I just so happened to have some break out leads with the right connections so I went ahead & made the measurements. Surprisingly it was damn near on da $!!
