IMO, with what some of these guys are asking for used hulls that are 12-16 years old......I'd buy a new one if you can afford the extra. Why buy a boat with a "new floor" and/or "reinforced transom". There's a reason. Personally, I've never had any issues with any of my Mirages as far as structure is concerned, but I don't abuse my toys either. There are differences in build materials on the new ones which, IMO, are worth the money. Just tell Mullins what ya want and be happy. If you're looking to spend less, I wouldn't buy one older than a 95'.

If you want a good Mirage the one drwjr has on this board is a great buy. Just my .02 worth.

If you're intent on a Mirage hull, I'd contact Tague, he is a supporting vendor here and recently acquired a ski racer (4 seater) mold and is building a quality boat.

It's all a matter of how they have been cared for . I had a '94 Mirage , for ten years . Stored outside , in direct sunlight with no cover . Never had a rott problem . Sold the boat . then it was stored outside covered under the trees . It was rotted to nothing , in two years . It never dried out , sitting in the shade .

Not going into structural problems, rotting, transoms, etc. There are several different bottom designs on different year models. It may not be easy to see but they are there and make huge difference in the way the boats run and handle. I wish I was I new them well enough to tell you the differences. Good question on your part. Like MODVP22 said the newer hull designs are better.

There's nothing wrong with an older hull as long as it's been taken care of. My 95 Ski racer was a strong performing hull..........great weight distribution in the way Collins laid it up for me. It certainly wasn't any slower than my newer Mullins hull.

Thats my understanding---in fact many prefer the collins built--mine is meticulous after a hundreds of hours in detailing this winter. Structurally perfect cosmetics up to new
