Hi everyone , Well with a new season approaching and gas over 4.00 /gal I have to ask this question. Can the Merc 225 Promax be tuned for better fuel economy. Timing or acu adjustments ? Prop ? (v-king boat) Right now it is tuned as Jay Smith suggested and runs like hell, boat does 95 easy. In lieu of gas prices going 95 is not as important as getting out on the water. What if anything can be done? Thanks Jim

Jim,
I'm afraid that if the timing were lowered the motor would become lazy and sluggish on the bottom and mid as well as becoming even more thirsty. You may talk to Tony and see if he has any suggestions to turn the "wick" down a bit and still maintain some bit of a complete burn just less fuel and not chance the motor running lean and damaging pistons.
I'd be interested in hearing what he ( Tony ) says, please forward any direction, these fuel prices are getting so high a thirsty outboard may become something that used once a month instead of every week end.
Good luck,
Jay

I've been looking into the Brucato ACU or PCU. I'm never going to be a racer so it seems the ACU is the best choice. From what i've read Tony can program it with a fuel curve to your specific needs, fuel savings being one of them?? Jay do you think it's a worth the money upgrade? I would like to do the SVS with an ACU on my 98 promax SS. I also have read about doing the +2 timing advance, it there an advantage to doing the advance? Right now I'm completely stock other than removed oil injection.

My customers seem to like the ACU's fuel economy over the stock box as well as enhanced performance . The ACU is tunable, user friendly and the steam wheel is a great addition for at the dash fine tuning to compensate for weather changes ...
Just my .02
