I'm looking for camper. Does anyone have any advise on brands or floor plans. Also, opinions on 5th wheel vs. tow behind.
Thanks!

Fifth wheel total setup will be shorter and more maneuverable than an equivalent pull behind. It also balances the load on the tow vehicle much better.

Another consideration is that you can tow a boat behind a fifth wheel trailer in most places.

We currently have a 35' Layton fifth wheel and will probably be going to a tow behind for more room and less height. We've had both and have found when doing alot of different sites big fifth wheels are tough to get through wooded areas with the height they are. With proper hitch and bars tow behinds tow just as well as a fifth wheel. As for the tow boat behind that is state to state. My. 02 ;)

Keep in mind that trailers with 3 axles will pull the tire off the rim if turning too tight... 2 axles are less prone, but I've seen many a tire off the rim on 3 axle set ups. They are fine if not trying to turn to tight.,

Bumper pull = more tounge weight on bumper .... not as easy to manuver IMO
5th wheel = load is over truck axle,,, pulls better IMO,,, follows pretty much in the truck tire tracks.

I've got a 2001 40' Forest River Sierra with 3 slide outs, but I don't tow it anywhere since I bought it and had it towed to the campground. It just stays at a campground now where I've also got the boat lift, etc.

It's really hard to beat the room you get when you have two slide outs across from each other.

What do you have as a tow vehicle?
We have a 20' Forest River Work and Play, tow it with a 1/2 ton truck, but couldn't do it safely without a weight distribution hitch. Gross vehicle and tow weight are a very important factor when looking at trailers of any type. We love our toy-hauler, big enough I can put the Baja bug, 3 4-wheelers, or a jetski in it.
