This crap EVER gonna stop? Know of the new squeeze bulbs already. Found this on another boat forum. I mean, come on, gimme a break here, as one simple fill, or pour out, is a ZILLION more "released", than will come out a plastic tank, in decades. Up to you to decide........(and pay)..and damn glad, long ago, bought 6, 5 gallon "old Blitz", portable tanks, for filling up. Work FINE, just un cap, pull the spout out, uncork the vent, "gone in 60 seconds". The new crap?...simple sucks..:reddevil::reddevil:

We in the retail business were hit with this not long ago. Here is the information we are providing our customers as to why your portable tanks (and soon ALL fuel tanks) are going to cost more from now on:

"Dear Customers,
You may be wondering why you're seeing higher prices on the portable fuel tanks, fuel lines, and primer bulbs this year.
To meet new standards mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), these products (portable fuel tanks) must be manufactured with low-permeation materials to decrease fuel evaporation into the environment. As a result, the cost of producing thes products has doubled.
The change impacts all portable fuel tanks of 12 gallons or less. In 2012, these new EPA standards will affect all other topside AND below deck fuel tanks as well."

OK. We just got new tanks in, and they seem to be about twice as thick as the old ones, and therefore weigh twice as much. I mean come on... how much gas can actually evaporate thru a polyethelene gas tank?? I'd like to see the data from the EPA study.

So, if you need to get a new fuel tank in the near future do it now while there are still some of the older (or should I say current?) ones available. I checked into the actual COST of the new tanks... and they do indeed cost about twice as much to manufacture as the old ones. Therefore, no one is trying to dupe you into paying more for that 6 gallon fuel tank... it really does cost twice as much as the old one.

You could probably trace this new "law" back to the companies who make this material, greasing the correct palms to get it passed.

Notice that it is hard... very hard to find a jerry can with a vent. They have this BS vent in the spout. :nonod:

I am surprised that the EPA doesn't make us run charcoal canisters and other vapor BS. They are ramping up for catalytic converters. It's coming.

The EPA is mostly self regulated (by the liberals) and has run amuck.

As a side note, recreational vehicles (all of them) make up a whole 2% of emissions, or so I am told. And easy target is what they (we) are. :nonod:

here's a good laugh, worked on a westerbeke gas generator last week in a 2004 34 searay, it was 4.5 kw, and it wouldn't turn up and produce power, the customer had already rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel pump, and did a compression test. i ck it out and find the exhaust is restricted, the problem is in the riser on the engine- well it turns out there is a catalytic converter in the riser!!! 875$ later the problem is fixed! this is on a little 3 cylinder engine, wasn'[t there talk of them putting cats on lawnmowers?

What good does it do to make tank material less permeable, when the vent is wide open to the atmosphere. These people who think this stuff up are retards. I agree with CDave...manufacturers probably aren't selling enough tanks.

Oh yeah, the jerry cans. Some of them have a vent in the spout, but the ones I have just gasp for air and the gas pours out in surges. You can still get a spring loaded metal jerry can like they carried on the backs of jeeps in the old days, but they are expensive. I'm thinking of buying one so I have it before they stop making them.

I've gone to using race fuel jugs to fuel my lawn mower cause the new ones you buy take too damn long to put the 11 gallons in my mower holds.

Yep, the two I just bought from Speedway Motors have vents. 5Gal. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Two-Handled-5-Gallon-Utility-Jug,1112.html
They also make a 2.5 gal. w/vent. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/2-1-2-Gallon-Utility-Jug,5750.html
They have different kinds too. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/search-fuel-jugs.html
But they are "utility" jugs and may not be legal to carry fuel in you State, so they say. ;)
